January 17th - MLK JR. Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated on the third Monday of January each year. This year it is celebrated on Monday, January 17, 2022.
This day of service celebrates the civil rights leader and emphasizes his legacy and peaceful activism. It also allows us to reflect upon the work we still need to do to attain racial equality in our communities and nation. Many people may not know that this national holiday got its start right here in Pennsylvania. US Senator Harris Wofford co- authored the King Holiday and Service Act of 1994. One of the main tenants of this act was to include and encourage service opportunities as one of the Commission’s purposes.
While many schools and organizations count it as a holiday, the "a day on, not a day off” culture prevails through selfless acts of giving and volunteering. While the pandemic has caused us to adjust a few traditional holiday opportunities, organizations across Bucks County are still holding events, many virtually, and are providing volunteer opportunities. Below are two links to assist in finding ways you and your children can participate in this day of service. MLK Day of Service - CB Cares Educational Foundation (cb-cares.org) and 20 Service Ideas for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (signupgenius.com)
Are you and your children interested in learning more? Here, https://coloursofus.com/14-childrens-books-about-martin-luther-king-jr/ you will find a list of 22 books focused on MLK Jr. and his life as a civil rights activist. There are selections for all ages and reading levels. The book pictured above, Martin's Big Words, is a picture book with a wonderful message about the power of our words and the change that can occur when we use them for good.
Please enjoy the holiday weekend and be sure to let us know of any volunteer or giving projects your children participate in.
"If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way." - MLK Jr.

MTSS Update: Winter Screenings
As mentioned in a communication sent earlier this year, the district has begun the implementation of MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports). A process through which we support students based on research-based assessments and practices as well as individual student need. Along with this process, we are using the Star Assessment by Renaissance for Reading and Math. This assessment was taken in the fall by all students. Our Winter testing window is scheduled for early February. This second assessment will allow us to assess the health of our curriculum as well as help us to celebrate student growth and support students with specific skill interventions and enrichments. These assessments will be completed electronically in your child’s classroom and only take one class period to complete. The information we have gleaned from the MTSS process has been beneficial in identifying learning needs early and providing intervention quickly, allowing us to support students as they achieve academic success and feel pride in their work. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

January SPARKS
In a recent article by psychologist Louis Tay, he states, “Don’t push your children toward skills just because they pay well. Financial success is only one dimension of a fulfilling life.” Teaching our children to understand and value money can be a challenge in our world especially when we consider what is “needed” and what is “wanted”. As part of our Career Education Program through the District’s Success Plan (Smart Futures and Naviance), we provide lessons and resources on various topics including “How Money is Used” in the primary grades, to budgeting, financial literacy and entrepreneurship in the secondary grades. These are important lessons to help your daughter or son see a path to their future goals and a means to attain those goals. Ask your student to log onto these platforms and show you what they are learning.

iRun for Life
iRun for Life
iRun4Life is looking for a fun, energetic person to be the Pine Run iRun4Life School Director! After 2 crazy years of Covid, we need to get our children outside again running with their friends!
iRun4Life’s mission is to help combat childhood obesity through our inclusive, after school noncompetitive running program for boys and girls. Training is for 8 weeks immediately after school for 1 hour starting in the spring. Training includes warm up exercises, fun relay races, endurance runs and cool down exercises. The School Director would organize the teams, training and healthy snacks. All training materials, healthy snack suggestions, guest speaker ideas, and Gives Back Program information are on the iRun4Life portal, and can be customized to fit your school’s needs.
On Jan. 20, 2022, there is an annual iRun4Life School Director meeting where you will learn everything you need to know to organize a successful iRun4Life running program. And the iRun4Life School Outreach Director, Nikolai Derek, is there to help you- and assist you in anything you may need!
This volunteer position is a great way to help Pine Run’s elementary school children learn to love running, exercise and eating healthy. And you do Not need to be a runner to volunteer!
If you are interested in joining the awesome iRun4Life School Director team, please contact Judy Wexler at Judy@iRun4Life.com .

This is a locked document. If you did not receive the Pine Run Student Directory Access Code please contact the office.
All students, staff members, and visitors are required to wear face coverings while inside our school building and on school buses. This was a result of the Order of the Acting Secretary and the new Health and Safety Plan, which was approved by the CBSD Board of Education on August 31, 2021.
Individuals, including students, staff, parents, and all visitors, who wish to request a mask exception must carefully review and submit the Central Bucks School District’s face covering exemption form. NO other form will be accepted for reason of exemption from the face-covering order. Please send the signed hard copy form to school with your child if they will not be wearing a mask.
I encourage all families to have a conversation with their child around the topic of face coverings. Each child should understand proper mask-wearing behaviors, as well as your family's personal expectations. My hope is that it will ensure students are following the directive of their parents while also following the procedures and guidelines put in place for all.
Please know teachers and staff will provide gentle reminders, to those students wearing masks, to keep them fitted correctly, covering the mouth and nose and not under their chin.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we move forward.
