OUR MISSION
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Trafalgar Elementary Parents,
The month of February is behind us and we are looking forward to March...and spring. Our K-5 graders participated in “Jump Rope for Heart” on February 14th. The students worked very hard preparing for the event and it really paid off. The school raised $2,810.47 for the American Heart Association! I am so proud of their hard work and dedication to such a worthy cause! A very special thank you to Ms. Corace for setting up and running this event. Your tremendous efforts and devotion are greatly appreciated.
Our Art Show was held on February 13th. It was a great night and a tremendous success! Thank you to Mrs. Garcia-Valdez who put together the event. The monies raised will go to paying for future art projects and Tube Dudes!
We RESCHEDULED our Movie on the Lawn event to Thursday, March 12th. We look forward to seeing all the families there.
Students in grades 3-5 will begin taking the FSA test at the beginning of April. Please see "FSA Testing Schedule" below. Third grade is scheduled to take the FSA Reading test starting on April 1st and 4th and 5th grade students will take the FSA Writing on April 1st. Attendance is very important. Students who miss a day will need to make it up. All students should get a good night’s sleep and have a nutritious breakfast each and every morning. Studies also show that students who are hydrated perform better on standardized tests. We want all of our students to try their best! Thank you for your cooperation.
Smile and Be Kind,
Mrs. Murphy
Principal

FIELD DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are excited about our upcoming Field Day Event. To ensure a successful field day on Thursday, March 12th from 7:30-10:30 AM, we need parent volunteers to run the games/stations. If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Ms. Corace at suzycc@leeschools.net
SAFETY FIRST
Our afternoon pick up begins at 2:10 and ends around 2:35. It is not safe to park on SW 20th Ave or SW 18th Ter to pick up your child. If your child is not able to walk home independently, please use the car line. Parent pick up tags are always available in the front office.
Please remember during drop off and pick up times, we ask that all parents enter by turning right into the driveway. When exiting campus, it is posted "Right Turn Only".
Many traffic issues can be resolved if all parents follow the processes we have in place. No one wants a child to be injured because processes were not followed. Our school staff does all they can to keep your children safe and we are asking for your help with this.
At dismissal, we do not allow parents to pick students up in the office. Please remain in the car line.
Our School Resource Officer and Administration are always available to answer your questions.
Also remember that we do not take transportation changes over the phone. In order to change how your child goes home at the end of the day, you must either write a note in the planner or send an email to your child's teacher and the office. You may also send a request by fax.
If you are coming on campus as a visitor or volunteer, don't forget to bring your ID- it is required.
We thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
CHARACTER EDUCATION-COURAGE
The character trait for the month of March is: COURAGE. Courage is having the determination to do the right thing even when others don't; the strength to follow your conscience rather than the crowd. Attempting difficult things that are worth-wild.
Parents, here is an activity to reinforce this character trait at home.
Book to use to teach COURAGE: You're Mean, Lily Jean!
Discuss: Talk with your child about the word COURAGE and discuss what it means together, come up with some examples in your own lives. How was Lily Jean being mean to Carly? What did Carly do to show courage? What did Sandy do to show courage?
Craft: Making the connection between COURAGE and superheroes is one that children can understand. Remind them that kids can have courage to do super things just like superheroes do!
