Humans appeared on Earth around 200,000 years ago. They were the earliest of computing technology by using their hands, fingers, feet and toes to count. For centuries they used this technique for counting until the abacus was invented and made math easier. 200,000 years late, humans no longer need to use phalanges to count, but now have access to calculators to do the math for them.

3. What role did Texas Instruments play in development of current computer technology?

Fifty years ago, Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments, invented a chip called the integrated circuit that was about the revolutionize technology. His goal for doing this was to solve the problem of “the tyranny of numbers.” Kilby went against the company to discover his new creation. The integrated circuit was able to interconnect things like transistors, diodes, etc. The impact that i had on us today is that it took computers from room size to the size of a book, helped man walk on the moon, allowed deaf people to hear, and many more. Overall, this invention completely revolutionized technology and had a large impact on almost every sector of technology.

An important event in computer history that happened years ago on today’s same date (3/15) was that Google was voted the best internet brand in 2006. It was also voted to be one of the most reliable resources that year as well because of its ability to use its search engine to bring up many different results for a search.

On August 6th, 1991, the World Wide Web become available for public access. Because the internet went public in 1991, businesses used e-commerce to buy and sell electronically. Businesses began to make their own websites so that consumers will have easier access to the goods and services.

How else do they make profit? Since it is a free app, Instagram makes money by advertisers paying for their ads to be put on their website.

Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Windows Microsoft in 1975. Today, Microsoft is worth $69.96 billion. Forty years later, Gates is one of the richest and most successful men in the world. The partnership started from the bottom, and lied and schemed their way to the top.

Apple’s Co-founders bio:

Steve Jobs- Born February 24, 1955 in San Francisco, California was given up for adoption by his parents, which he did not gain information about until he was 27 years old. He showed interest in electronics at a small age, and his adoptive father, Paul, taught him how to take them apart. This then became a hobby of his. After high school, Jobs attended Reed College for only six months until he dropped out. In 1974 he worked for Atari, but quit in order to find spiritual enlightenment in India. In 1976 at the age of 21 him and Wozniak began to develop the first Apple computer. In 2003 Jobs found out that he had a form of pancreatic cancer, later passing away in 2011 due to it at the age of 56.

Steve Wozniak- Born in San Jose, California on August 11, 1950 was fascinated with electronics at a young age. He didn’t do well in a formal school setting, but he always had an interest in building electronics from scratch. He met Steve Jobs while he attended University of California at Berkeley through a mutual friend. Together they began working on the first Apple computer while working in a family garage.
Ronald Wayne- Born on May 17, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio, he is often forgotten as one of the co founders of Apple. In 1953 he graduated from the School of Industrial Arts in New York City, and after he learned on his own to help with his career of electro-mechanical engineering and product development. He met Steve Jobs in the mid 70s, where they together founded Apple.

Microsoft Co-founder's bio:

Bill Gates- Born on October 28th, 1955 in Seattle Washington, Gates began his interest in computer programming at the age of 13. At school, he excelled in all his classes, especially math and science, at his exclusive prep school. Allen and Gates met at the Lakeside Prep School, where they became friends and future business partners. At the age of 15, they began their business and created their first computer program. Gates attended Harvard University for law, where he later dropped out. In 1974, Gates joined Allen and began working for Honeywell. And a year later in 1975, they created the software system, Microsoft. The next 40 years for the company were very successful. Microsoft became the world’s largest software company and Gates became on of the richest men in the world with a networth of $79.3 billion.

Paul Allen- Born in 1954, also in Seattle, Washington, Paul Allen also attended the Lakeside School. From there, he attended Washington State University, where he dropped out only a few years later. Joining back up with Gates in 1974, he was the co-founder of today’s world’s largest software program, Microsoft. Known as the “idea man” for the company, he kept very reserved, whereas Gates, known as the “man of action” remained very enthusiastic and outgoing about the company.

Mark Zuckerberg- Born May 14, 1984 in White Plains, New York, he was interested in computers at a young age. He used the Atari BASIC computer when he was only 12 years old to create a messaging program called “Zucknet”. He spent time in high school at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. He then attended Harvard University, where he created Facebook in his dorm room until June 2004. After dropping out of college his sophomore year, he moved to Palo Alto, California to pursue his Facebook company, which had over one million users. He is now one of the youngest billionaires in the world.

Dustin Moskovitz- Born May 22, 1984 in Gaines, Florida. He went to Vanguard High School and graduated with the IB Diploma. After high school he attended Harvard University, where he met Mark Zuckerberg. He also moved to Palo Alto to pursue the idea of Facebook. He was Facebook’s first technology officer, and then later became the vice president of engineering.

Born on November 19th, 1976 in St. Louis, Missouri, Jack Dorsey was known as the founder of Twitter in 2006. He showed his interest in computers and communication as young as 15, by creating software for taxicabs that is still used today. Before receiving his degree from New York University, Dorsey dropped out of college and moved to the west coast. March 21, 2006, the world’s first tweet was posted; “just setting up my twttr.” Today Twitter has over 10 million users, including celebrities, business owner’s, politicians, etc. Jack Dorsey has a net worth of $2.7 billion because of the success of his social media creation.

The first computer game was created in 1958. It was a very simple tennis game that was played on an oscilloscope, which is an electronic device that displays visual images that correspond to electrical signals.

This is a picture from the video game, NBA 2K11. It is a popular basketball video game where you can create your dream team and play as your favorite NBA players. While playing the game, viewers can notice the advertisements in the background that are placed all around the court and arena. This image shows different advertisements of companies like Gatorade, HP, Jordan, and Spalding. This represents how advertising campaigns have evolved because they even try to get consumers through video games.

As big a room, the first computer in the United States in 1951 weighed 7.6 tonnes (17,000 pounds). It consisted of 5,200 vacuum tubes, and only 46 of them were made. In total it used up 125 kilowatts of power to run.

Plankalkul was the world’s first complete high-level language, invented in the early 1940s. The inventor Konrad Zuse, created a computer program so that computers would have the ability to take commands. It also worked as a big calculator that worked with arithmetic and many other types of operations.

According to, music sales in 2013 were about 25 million online. However, in 2014, according to the Wall Street Journal, music sales dropped about 13-14% with in the year because of illegal downloading of music.

19. Which ancient culture, under the Hammurabi dynasty (1800-1600B.C) developed the first algorithms for excavations, linear equations, and geometric problems?

Between 1800-1600 BC, the Babylonians enhanced mathematics that would change the whole subject itself. They were able to discover different forms of math like “fractions, algebra, quadratic and cubic equations, the Pythagorean theorem, the calculation of Pythagorean triples and possibly trigonometric functions” (History of Information). When making these discoveries, the Babylonians didn’t use numbers, but symbols. They created tables that included things like squares of numbers, cubes, square roots, cube roots, etc. So not only did they develop the first algorithms for excavations, linear equations, and geometric problems, but they completely revolutionized math for mathematicians to follow.
