One Book One School Overview
What is One Book One School (OBOS)?
One Book One School is a movement designed to get an entire school community - including parents - involved in the joy of reading. Following a shared schedule, the students read at home or school together. In the classroom, there are daily events and projects that reinforce the reading and get everyone at school excited about the book and sharing in the reading experience. Often the entire staff - from lunch ladies to the principal - are involved and encourage several levels of reading within one book.
Winter Read Aloud- Whole Family Event- Our second read this year will be organized much like last year. The read will be a chapter book that follows a common schedule and activities will last the whole month of January. We will be purchasing one book for each family to read together, enjoy, and keep. We will also have a culminating event night to celebrate the book together at Robinson on January 26th.
Specific Details of OBOS for January
We will be sending home one book for each family in attendance at Robinson along with a family bingo sheet with activities you can do as you read along with the book. The family bag will also have a bookmark for your family to use while reading the book. You can read the book together following our reading calendar below. Additionally your child will be reading the book in class each day with a mystery staff member. In class, teachers will be discussing vocabulary words and adding words to your child's literacy repertoire. You can discuss the book and words together at night to share in the joy of literacy.
The book will be sent home with the oldest student in your family on January 6th. The reading calendar begins on January 9th and lasts for three weeks.
Mark your calendars for the school-wide One Book One School event on January 26th from 4:30- 6:00 p.m at Robinson. We will have games, projects, readers theatre, a book exchange and other fun events for the whole family. We hope to see you all there!
