Week of Monday, September 12 - Friday, September 16

Dear McKinley Community,

It has definitely been a hot week for all of us. Luckily, our classrooms and multi-purpose room all have air conditioning and we were able to stay cool for instruction and during lunch and lunch recess. Thank you to all staff and parents for your support and understanding during our city heat wave.

Events for the Year

A paper copy of the McKinley and PACS events for the year was sent home in your child's red folder. Below is a digital copy for you to view. Please note that not all events are on the calendar and some still need to be scheduled. However, we hope this at least provides you the opportunity to see what will happen over the course of the year and help you to plan accordingly.

Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders

Due to the growth McKinley has had over the years, many of you have experienced the challenges around parking. As mentioned at the beginning of the year, we strongly encourage parents to park at the Fairgrounds and walk their children to and from school. Currently, we are working on creating a "Walking School Bus" from the Fairgrounds to help aid students walking to and from school to the Fairgrounds parking lot to help with the traffic situation. We will keep you updated as this develops.

The city has had a meter attendant during the afternoon monitoring the safety of the corner of Maddison and Ellis, NOT at the request of the school. Please be aware that tickets have been handed out to cars that have stopped in the red zone during pick-up. As a reminder, please do not stop in the red zone, pull all the way forward in the drop-off circle, and do not block crosswalks. We have a committee to help find solutions to the current traffic issues and we appreciate your continued cooperation.

Rivertown Hoops

In March of 2019, the City of Petaluma voted to cancel the sale of fireworks by small community-based non-profits throughout Petaluma. For many of these non-profits, this was their only fundraising tool. Petaluma People Services Center (PPSC) stepped up to

create a new fund-raising event, with all the impacted nonprofits, to offset some of their fundraising loss.

PPSC decided to initiate a 3on3 streetball basketball tournament, Rivertown Hoops. The inaugural tournament will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Petaluma Junior High School. Please see their website for more information.
