Learn About ROTC
Army ROTC is the largest merit-based scholarship program; each year they award over 2,000 scholarships to high school seniors. These include 3-year and 4-year scholarships that cover: 100% tuition and fees (in state, out of state, public and private schools), $420 monthly stipend while in school, and $600 per semester for books.
The scholarship window for seniors is now open. If you have seniors who are applying to college next fall AND are interested in military service, ROTC is a great fit. It allows students to pursue their degree while they receive their leadership training and receive financial assistance. Army ROTC is offered at over a thousand colleges and universities throughout the US.
Students who are interested in Army ROTC are always welcome to visit the program at Marquette or schedule a virtual brief. Additionally, ROTC representatives from many ROTC college programs will be at the Fall Wisconsin Education Fairs. Students are encouraged to stop and visit with them about the program, even if they are interested in ROTC schools outside of Wisconsin.
Lastly, Marquette has an event at the end of October called Shadow Days. This event is targeted towards High School Juniors and Seniors and runs from October 29-30. Students arrive the afternoon of the 29th, spend the night with a current ROTC cadet at Marquette, and get first-hand experience of what it's like to be a college student AND ROTC cadet. Attached is a flyer for distribution or students can visit the website:

The Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) club for high school students
ACE – Animal Career Exploration
Ages: 9th-12th Grade
HAWS Animal Career Exploration (HAWS ACE) is a program for teens to learn about the variety of careers available in animal care. Members will get a chance to hear from speakers working in different animal-related jobs and learn what skills and training are needed to do those jobs. Veterinarian is usually the first career that comes to mind when thinking about jobs with animals. But how much do you really know about becoming a vet and did you know there are TONS of other animal related careers? Are you creative? Maybe you’d enjoy a job as a groomer. Good problem solver? Perhaps you could become a great dog trainer. Interested in law enforcement? What about a job as a Humane Officer? Participants will also learn more about HAWS and our mission, and get some hands on experience working with animals. Join HAWS ACE today! Meetings are held on one Wednesday a month per semester. Click here to Register.
ACT Prep Opportunities for Juniors
Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) is offering the ACT Exam Preparation course in October/November through a hybrid format. The course is designed for high school students preparing to take the ACT. Students will learn strategies and aspects of the ACT in the areas of Math, Reading, Writing, Science Reasoning, and English Grammar to prepare them for success on their exam. See the flyer for more details and registration instructions.
ACT Prep: Don’t forget- all juniors have access to the online ACT prep course through Methodize. This is true wether they are enrolled in the ACT prep class through PHS or not. Students can find the program in their Xello accounts on the menu on the right. This can be used at any time.
Most students take their first ACT with the high school in February/March and then take the April, June or July tests if they wish to retest. Some juniors will take the December test. Some seniors will take the September or October tests if they are still trying for a certain score. Scores are reported in time for admissions deadlines at most schools.
