LMS HOOFPRINTS
Lilburn Middle School Newsletter - JANUARY 2018
Principal's Corner 01/24/2018
Greetings to All:
Happy New Year! We hope that you had an enjoyable Winter Break. We look forward to your continued support as we help our students to achieve academic awesomeness. In order to ensure your child’s success, it is extremely important for all students to be present and ready to learn. In addition, students must read for 20-30 minutes each night, engage in learning daily, and complete all homework. Also, students must bring an appropriate book of their choice to school daily. Reading makes us smarter! Please encourage your child to read at home too. We hope to see you at our LMS STEM Night on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 6:00PM. Please plan to enjoy an evening of family fun and learning! Continue to check our LMS calendar for all future events.
Please check that your children are recording homework and key dates in their student agenda books. They can purchase a replacement agenda book from their grade level clerk for $5. LMS Wednesday Folders help us to provide important information to you. Please make sure that your child is bring his/her LMS Wednesday folder home weekly. They should be returned back to school every Thursday. Report cards were sent home on Monday, January 22, 2018. Please make sure that you sign the report card envelope and have your child return it to his/her homeroom teacher. Please make sure that you are monitoring your children’s grade on the Parent Portal. Once you set up your account, please look for your activation email. You must activate your account before receiving access to your child’s grades. Please stop by our Parent Center if you need help or have further questions.
*Reminder- Our Academy Assistance Program (AAP) begins on January 29th. This intervention program will provide additional learning opportunities for your student to master AKS from Semester 1. If your child earned a 69 or lower on their report card in Language Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies, they will have an opportunity to attend our Academic Assistance Program. If they successfully pass the Academic Assistance class and Semester I Assessment Retake, their failing grade for the semester will be replaced with a 70. Please note that successful completion of the Academic Assistance Program can prevent your student from being required to attend summer school or be retained for semester 1 classes. Please keep in mind that all students must pass 5 out of 6 classes with a semester average of 70 percent or higher. Math and Language Arts must be one of the five classes passed. Each AAP sessions costs $75, per class. Students may only take one class per session. The deadline to pay is Friday, January 26th.
All students will be administered the Georgia Milestone Assessment April 11th-April 23rd. To learn more about how to help your child improve their academic performance and how to prepare for the Georgia Milestones Assessments (GMAS), we ask that you visit the Georgia Department of Education website at the links below to access valuable resources about the new Georgia Milestone Assessments. Digital Days have come to Lilburn Middle School! To ensure that learning continues on Inclement Weather Days, students had an opportunity to experience Digital Learning Days (DLD), through their “My Student” portal. Students accessed their teachers’ course pages through their “My Student” portal through a tablet, computer, or cell phone. Once on their teacher’s course page, each student accessed their teacher’s Digital Learning Day folder, completed the learning activity and assignment for that Digital Learning Day and submitted their assignments in their teacher’s “Digital Day Drop Box” for his/her scheduled class period.
Also, students had the opportunity to print and submit their assignments when they returned. Yes, it was truly that simple! If a student was unable to participate in Digital Learning, they will need to complete the assignments missed once he/she returns to school. For more information about Digital Learning Days and accessing course pages, please view the Digital Learning link on our school webpage. Thank you for your commitment to your child’s success! We know that the sky is the limit for our children!
