FEBRUARY-MARCH MAGICALLY DELICIOUS!
MHCHS: MAKING MAGICAL MOVES
PIRATE FAMILIES
Our students have had a busy slate of Speech and Debate tournaments, club meetings, art shows, musical auditions, and performances. The production of "Cinderella" for the spring has also begun.
Parents are always encouraged to email, call or stop by if you have questions or concerns. Remember that the School Improvement Team meets every second Monday and all meetings are open to the public.* I am available on Tuesday and Thursday. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I am in classrooms all day or working with teachers. All concerns should be directed to Ms. Sanchez. *Ms. Sanchez is available on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Ms. Sanchez will be in classes all day on Tuesday and Thursday. Please adhere to this schedule. Our primary focus as administrators is to be instructional leaders. This schedule helps us accomplish that and improve instruction for all of our students.
We encourage our parents to be active and positive members of our school community throughout the year. A united front will ensure that students know the rules apply to EVERYONE. We strive to create an atmosphere of respect for TEACHERS, STAFF, POLICIES, and PRACTICES.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES AND 2nd SENIOR PARENT MEETING
The second and final senior parent meeting will be held from 6:00-7:00
Make sure your parents come out and meet with your second-semester teachers!!

CLASS OF 2022
At this time of year, we move into registration and preparing for your next year. All registration information has been shared and the deadline for registration is February 28, 2019, at 8:00 a.m.
Hopefully, you are buckling down and preparing for a busy second semester.
Parents, please make sure that your student is completing his/her classwork and turning it into the teacher. Teachers have set times when grades can no longer be added. Once that time arrives they cannot go back and change grades. It is important that our freshmen learn to manage their class time wisely.
Most of you have paid your dues for the FRESHMAN field trip. If you have not, please make sure that you do. All freshmen will travel to UNC-CH on April 3, 2019.
CLASS OF 2021
All sophomores will travel to NC State. The date of your field trip is April 16, 2019. Please pay your dues of $30.00 to Ms. Braden (404) as soon as possible. All students are required to attend since this is our collegiate experience for the year.
CLASS OF 2020
The junior deadline for paying for prom 2019 is March 15, 2019. All juniors who intend to attend the prom will need to pay their $60.00 dues. There will be no additions to the prom after the deadline. We have to order food (per plate) and pay for the venue. All of this needs to be done prior to prom (May 4, 2019). We hope you will all attend.
CLASS OF 2019
Prom will be held May 4, 2019. All dates have been provided for senior activities.
HOODIES AND JEANS
We are asking our parents to please help with the dress code enforcement. Our biggest areas that tie up teacher instructional time and administration time can be solved with parent support and adherence to the code. Here are two areas that we need your help with:
HOODIES: Hoodies are not allowed for underclassmen. They are only allowed for seniors if they purchase their senior hoodie. This hoodie is designed by the senior class and has been a tradition at Massey Hill.
If you see your underclassman with a hoodie on when they leave for school, please ask them to remove it. We allow fleece without a hood. This includes all jackets with hoods.
JEANS: Jeans are not part of our Monday-Thursday dress code. This includes black jeans. Jeans with holes and tears are not allowed at any time. If your child has them on and you bring them to school, please stop them at the door and make adjustments as needed. Uniform pants are not jeans. They cannot be jean material or denim.
MOST IMPORTANTLY!!:
After disciplinary actions have been assigned and you verify that it was indeed a violation, I ask that you and your student discuss consequences and choices. We believe our students should accept responsibility for those choices, explain them to you and serve their disciplinary assignment.
THIS SERVES AS OUR NOTICE THAT STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF DRESS CODE WILL RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS. MONDAY WILL MARK OVER 6 MONTHS FOR FRESHMAN AND YEARS FOR OTHER STUDENTS. STUDENTS ARE AWARE OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR DRESS AGREED TO BY YOU (THE PARENT) and THE STUDENT. A COPY OF THE DRESS CODE CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR STUDENT'S HANDBOOK, OUR WEBSITE, AND SENT DIRECTLY TO YOU UPON REQUEST.
MASSEY HILL IS A BYOD SCHOOL......
We also ask parents to be mindful and respectful of instructional time and refrain from texting or calling during class. If there are emergencies you may call the front desk. It is a distraction to the class and a deterrent to the student when parents call during class. Most classes remove phones from students to cut down on distractions.
The article below presents opinions on both sides of the BYOD policy. We will continue to try to make the best decisions for our students and maintain high academic and behavioral standards. Your opinion is valuable to us. If you have any comments or concerns about BYOD or the dress code, please email me and I will forward all to our School Improvement Team (SIT). My email address is located below.
