MD Guidance & Counseling - May 2018
9th Grade Monarchs
Happy May, Freshmen! Final exams are right around the corner on May 29, 30, 31, and July 1st. Begin reviewing for your semester exams early!
It is important to remember that students must meet pre-requisites to qualify for a course as outlined in the Mater Dei Course Catalog. For course descriptions and prerequisites, please refer to the Mater Dei Course Catalog, linked here. Please see your Guidance Counselor if you have questions regarding your 2017-2018 class schedule.
Your service hours were to have been completed and turned into Mrs. Hopkins in the Campus Ministry Office by April 9th, 2018 for a total of 20 hours of service for your Freshman year. You can check on your hours through your Aeries account by looking at your "Activities & Awards." Be certain that you are on target with service hours, as they are a MDHS graduation requirement.
Here’s wishing you continued success this semester!!! ENJOY YOUR SUMMER soon! ! !
Plan for the Summer
Use your summer wisely! Summer is a wonderful time for students to volunteer, to participate in community service projects, to take on a part time job or an internship, and to take an enrichment course at a community college. Here are some ideas:
- Volunteer! Begin on your service hours for next semester
- Explore colleges on Naviance OR plan a college visit
- Talk to Mr. Nguyen, our new Gateway Center Coordinator, about summer programs and internship opportunities
- Retake classes that you earned below a "C" grade
- Complete any summer assignments for next year's classes, if applicable
"What If I Earned a D or an F in a Class?"
Summer school at Mater Dei begins June 18th, and ends July 20th. You can register online at: www.materdei.org/summerschool. Students also have the option to attend their local public high school; please make sure that your student checks with his/her counselor prior to registering for summer school, in order to be certain that the class s/he is registering for will transfer to Mater Dei, and will count as a make-up course.
Academics
Remember, first semester grades are used to determine Sophomore year classes, and second semester grades are used to confirm placement in those classes.
Make sure to study for your final exams and ask for help from your teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
