Time for Rejuvenating!

Class will be in session through Wednesday this week. All of this year, students have been practicing mindfulness. Consider using these mindful strategies to reclaim peace and joy this holiday season!

Acknowledge how you feel. We have all had a stressful year with many changes. Take this break to explore ways to process what you are feeling. Take time to talk as a family, listen to music, stomp your feet, or scream into the wind. Notice how your feelings shift when you attend to them. The aim is to express your emotions so that you can let them go.

Open yourself to experience. Don't get stuck in what could've, would've, or should've been. Instead, look around and imagine what you might do with the people you can see, the places you can go, and the resources you have.

Focus your energy on making your holidays meaningful. Notice if you get distracted by negativity and gently bring yourself back to what's possible in the now. If you're struggling to stay present, try bringing your attention to something that pleases your senses. For more information on these strategies, check out this article from

Wishing you a Joyous and Relaxing Winter Break

Shout Out!

Our thanks goes to the Sharing Foundation for helping some of our families have a more joyful holiday!

The Bates Plunge team is currently ranked 13th but we want to be in the top 10! The Polar Bear Plunge has been a major fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Maryland for 25 years. This year, they are facing an uphill battle as the plunge will not be able to take place at Sandy Point State Park and will be completely virtual this year. We are inviting our Bates family to join our plunge team! It is free to join and you simply decide how you'd like to 'plunge!' If you raise at least $50, you get an amazing sweatshirt too. The best part is that it is an easy fundraiser that you can email to friends and family or post on your social media pages and it is for a great cause!

BONUS: If our Bates Blizzard Plungers raise $5,000 or more, Ms. Hicks will plunge into the frosty Magothy River and record it for all to see!!!!

If you are interested, follow these steps to join our team:

You can freeze for a great cause AND help us get Ms. Hicks in the river 🙂
