Miller's Little Ponies
Fun in First Grade
Learning with Miller's Littles
Gee! Geo-boards are handy!
A geo-board is a math manipulative used to support early geometric, measurement and numeracy concepts. A geo-board is a square board with pegs that students attach rubber bands to. Our geo-boards are in 10 by 10 pin arrays. Miller's Littles are learning how to create their own shapes and build patterns that are printed on a shape card. The kiddos think of tricks to make creating the shapes like a hexagon easier for their brains and their hands and share them with their peers!

Read Alouds with UVA students!
Scaredy Squirrel and Scarecrow Boy teach us more about capitalization and punctuation.
Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about. This week, UVA students Miss Lindsay and Miss Greenburg read aloud Fall-themed stories to teach proper capitalization and punctuation.

Mokie Monday
Design 2015 - Miller's Littles learned more about equines by examining their anatomy.
Miller's Littles learned what characteristics are shared by all equines on our Mokie Monday lesson. Students had the opportunity to examine a horse skull and examine the teeth to predict what the animal's diet is. We discussed how "eyes on the side, an animal will hide and eyes in the front, an animal will hunt" to show how horses are herbivores who only eat plants and not meat. Jerry Pallotta's Skull Alphabet Book and other horse books were a fun addition to our lesson.
Veterans Day!
Miller's Littles Patriots
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11th. Miller's Littles put their knowledge and appreciation of the armed forces into action by writing thank you notes to the sailors of USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77). These men and women are coming home from a 9 month deployment on this Naval aircraft carrier, and one of them happens to be Admiral Miller, my father! I will bring the kiddo's letters to the sailors so they know they are appreciated by all in Crozet Elementary!
Homecoming
The Sailors will love our notes!
Hooray they are home!

About Ms. Miller
I am from a military family and grew up in several areas around the United States. I received my B.A. from the University of Mary Washington in American Studies. I enjoyed Mary Washington so much that I decided to stay and get my Masters of Science in Elementary Education. This will be my eighth year as a teacher and I love being a part of a child's individual learning journey. In addition to teaching, I am passionate about horseback riding and being active outside. I am very excited to be working at Crozet Elementary this year!
