Introduction
Athens and how its democratic achievements have influenced and relates to America.
We all know how the American Government is somewhat related to Athenian culture and democracy, but there are also some differences.
Solon
Solon, Born 630 BC, was a statesman and poet. As a statesman he formed many codes of law that have made him regarded as the founder of Athenian democracy. his quote "The laws I passed were alike for low-born and for high-born; my aim was straightforward justice for each" shows his beleif in that all people are equal under the law. this relfect the views of american democracy where as that no one is above the law.
The Differences between Athens and The United States
though people had a lot of freedoms in government, not all people were considered " worthy" to participate. A few examples of this were women. Although they had more freedoms then most they weren't allowed a voice in government. The also participated in slavery. This was very contradictory especially with the philosophy of Solon which stated equal rights in justice.
