Sensory, Art, Science:
Last month's discussion on rain and thunder went smashingly! At school they giggle and laugh like crazy to the IPad thunder. I'm hoping that this trend continues though out life for them. We will continuing our spring exploration. We cant' wait to see what happens to our seeds. Some think they will become flowers. What do you think? This month we will be doing a lot with mixing colors, searching for super cool items on our walks to create collages. I think they'll have the most fun making new play dough!
Dramatic Play:
This month is all about helping to take care of baby and making good choices. We're still working on that pesky concept of being nice to our peers and books so it's still a part of dramatic play every day. I'm happy to say sharing and taking turns is still awesome (knock on wood), and that we have accomplished our goal of cleaning up when the tidy up song come on. (Our goal was to clean up at least 80% of the time). Feel free to encourage cleaning up at home and before leaving TTS for the day.
Math:
So we failed last month at making our snack math Super Exciting! I mean it was ok, but it didn't leave me with a feeling of pure joy. So, we're really going to step it up this month! Be sure to read June's newsletter to discover just how we do this. We are also continuing to working on sorting by colors and shapes and rote counting to 15. We're really working on orange and star.
Music and Movement:
We've really been working on hopping, jumping down stairs, stepping over huge objects, making it through obstacles courses, and dance parties at least twice a day. Want to see something cool? Ask you little one to do the worm and then see if you can do it too.
Zoophonics:
We continuing to focus on our Zoophonics friends within our names.
We are still working on identifying our name when it is written and about half the class now recognize their 1st letter! Woot Woot!
The Scouts
We have big changes coming in the month of May! It will be our last month of having The Tot Spot in this location. We are planning on moving the first week of June! Parent teacher conferences are the 7-12. For our social and emotional goals we are going to focus on using nice words and following directions. We have been having a rough time listening to our teachers, and have not been very nice to each other the past few weeks! We have officially made it through all of our Zoophonics friends, so we will have themed show and share. The first week will be to bring something with numbers on it. The second week will be to bring a shape or something with shapes on it. The third and fourth week will be spring themed, so it can be an activity you like to do in the spring or items you use or wear in the spring. We will also be gearing up and really practicing to perfect our graduation songs and the pledges. Please remember to send your child with sunscreen already on in the mornings, because we do not reapply until after nap and if it is nice we will be out! So here are some tips for the next month:
-Send you child in sunscreen already.
-Send your child in appropriate shoes and clothing.
-FLIP FLOPS ARE AGAINST TOT SPOT POLICY!
-Children will get dirty out on the playground and have a new found obsession with dirt, so do not send them in things that can't get dirty.
Sawyers/Sherlocks
Exciting things are coming in the Prek room! Graduation is closely approaching and we are getting EXCITED! We will miss our Role Model friends, but we know that they are on to BIGGER things! We hope they come back and tell us what Kindergarten is all about! This month will also be our last month at this location as TTS is onto BIGGER things starting in June with the opening of the new center! We will be working on numbers, shapes, and spring themes this month, along with really working on getting our role models ready for their next adventure! We will be zoning in on addition and subtraction, spelling, punctuation, and reading. We will be reviewing ALL of our zoophonics friends and sounds and really working on blending them together to make words we can read. During our science this month, we will be using prediction to see what happens with apples when they are in different substances, dipping rose stems in food coloring, making shape bubble wands, and growing our own sprouts! During our math centers we will be focusing on the concept of adding and subtracting and using different math vocabulary. We will be working on punctuation, sentence formation, spelling by sounding out words, and uppercase and lowercase letter formation during our writing time, as well as focusing on using our pincher grip while holding our pencils! I am sad when I realize that my time with my Role Model friends is coming to an end, but I know they will be great in Kindergarten and are ready for their next adventure! Parent-Teacher Conferences are May 8th -12th. There is a sign up sheet on the Parent Board. Please sign up for a sign to meet with me to discuss your kiddo and how they are doing! I can't wait to talk to each and every one of you!
Reminder: Graduation is Friday June 2, 2017 from 3pm - 6pm at Roy G. Holland Park. RSVP with any Tot Spot Teacher how many will be attending in your party!

Healthy Start Wisdom
Cinco de Mayo!!!
Healthy Start Wisdom From Ms. Alisha
With this being Spring in Indiana, it's not unusual to be stuck indoors. This month I'm sharing some music links of Dr. Jean that we use to stay active. I like them because you don't need the actual music and the kids really enjoy them.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt (the song is different than the book)
Go Bananas: My version starts like Dr. Jean's' but is different depending on what I'd like them to learn such as pop like popcorn if we're working on hopping or find the color brown)

The Parent's Spotlight!
The Teacher's Spotlight!
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
Mr. Mike: The Bears would always have an awesome draft or something deep like end hate
Ms. Diamond: The separation of people based on their differences :( We are all the same on the inside and I think everyone should be treated the same.
Ms. Le Andra: If I could change one thing about the world it would be all to take away all negativity and judgement. I wish we could all just get along and live in peace. Just think of how much happier we could all be if everyone was positive and loved each other.
Ms. Blue: I would change the world so there was no hate, negative media, or any negative actions against people of any kind. I feel that there is so much negativity in this world, and do not feel that anyone should feel like we live in a world full of hatred.
Ms. Corrine: World hunger because I believe no one should have to starve when we have the technology and plenty of food around the world.
