Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 17th February 2017
working with the cathedral
We count ourselves as very fortunate that our links with the Cathedral are so strong. A number of our governors are appointed by the Cathedral, and several volunteers come in on a regular basis. Our present Chair of Governors, Mrs Denney, also runs Cathedral Club, a very popular after school event. This week the children learnt all about Holy Communion with a hands on learning experience. They were able to use a beautiful chalice and paten lent to them by Mrs Williams, a former Chair of Governors.
Also in our Cathedral news this week, we were sad to say 'goodbye and thank you' to Canon Ruth. She has visited almost every week for the past few years, leading children in worship, and also as a governor. We sent her off with our fond best wishes for her new role in Sharow Parish.

Parent consultations - survey results
Thank you to the 22 people who had a go at our online survey last week. We think it was easy to complete, so maybe a few more of you could have a go at this week's survey? We were delighted that everyone agreed that their parent meeting was informative and worthwhile, with high satisfaction ratings for the arrangements and length of appointment.
Invitation to all parents
Thursday 2nd March - to coincide with World Book Day, Mrs McCormick will be running an English workshop which will feature a chance to go into classes. You are invited in for coffee and biscuits from 8.50am, with a short presentation about paired reading while children are having registration. After that you will be able to read with your child until 9.45am. Remember, children are invited to come dressed up as a character from a book.
Thursday 9th March - to encourage all our children to aim high in their maths work, parents and carers will be invited into class at 2.45pm. Teachers will guide activities whilst you work alongside your child. This will be a great opportunity to understand how we can all develop maths skills.
Sainsbury's Active Kids
Sainsbury's have launched their Active Kids' scheme again. We have set up a collection box in our Reception area so please keep collecting your vouchers. We can order cooking and sports' equipment with the vouchers, which will all help our healthy school focus this year.
Half term can be a great time to get active, why not do it as a family? Here is a video you can watch with your child to get the conversation going.
school gates
You have probably noticed that we are keeping the double gates to the staff car park closed during drop off and pick up times. Unfortunately this has become necessary as a few parents continued to use the car park, creating a hazard for all pedestrians. Please avoid parking in front of the gates also, as access may be required at any time for deliveries or emergencies.
Please see Mrs Bingham regarding parking permits for Sainsbury's car park. These are 'Park and Stride' permits for the St Marygate Car Park (lower level only) for school drop off and pick up times. They give you time to park, get your children to school and do a bit of shopping too.friends of ripon cathedral primary
