LMS Library Corner

October Edition, Part I

Library Updates

We have finished our student library orientations! All 1300+ students should now be familiar with our library and its resources. It's been such a pleasure for us to meet LMS students, new and old!

Since wrapping up our library orientations, we've been busy working with teachers and students on a variety of research projects. We've worked with...

  • 7th grade science teachers on a biomes research project
  • 7th grade social studies students on PBL assignments related to the American Reconstruction
  • 8th grade English students on research projects related to "Tolerance" and "Teaching Science Through Stories"
  • ELL students on using myON for reading and assignments

If you are ever interested in volunteering in the library, please email Nicole Yakatan (nyakatan@aol.com), our volunteer coordinator. Nicole will be happy to add you to her distribution list for the SignUpGenius. We always have plenty of projects in the library!

Battle of the Books

Our first Battle of the Books meeting was on Thursday, September 22nd, and we were happy to have such a great turnout--20 students! As a reminder-- Battle of the Books

meets on Thursday afternoons in the library. We are currently reading and discussing this year’s Virginia Reader’s Choice books (in no particular order). Once we've read a number of the books, students will form teams and compete against each other to see who knows the books the best. To find out more about this club, please visit the Battle of the Books Website.
