Mrs. Austin and Miss Benson's News
For the week of October 15-19
Kayaking!
The day has finally come....again! We will be traveling by bus to River Park on Thursday to learn about the city's water cycle, how to use a compass, and how to encourage each other while learning to kayak! Be sure to listen to the weather and dress for the temperature. We will be outside all day. Wear ATHLETIC SHOES and bring a CHANGE OF CLOTHES in case you get wet. Those of you bringing lunch from home, remember to put your name on the bag.
Science Presentation Monday
Thank you to the Soil and Water Conservation Office for presenting us information on ecosystems and limiting factors.
Kayaking!
We have waited a long time! Remember: lunch, extra set of clothes, jacket if needed, great attitudes!
Owl Pellets on Friday
The Soil and Water Conservation office will visit again and teach us a bout the food chain using owl pellets.
New Progress Reports
I have been introduced to an app that makes recording and sharing student progress much easier. You have been sent two emails explaining the report. The important thing to remember is that the percentages have NO MEANING on this report. You should look only at the numbers in parentheses. For example: (2/3) indicates a student scored a 2 indicating material not yet mastered. (3/3) indicates a student scored a 3 indicating mastery of material.
One House
Open House is THURSDAY, October18 from 6:00-7:30 in a drop-in format. I will have a sign up sheet available for conferences. Please keep in mind this is not an appropriate time to discuss individual private matters. I promise my students every year that this is a time of sharing.....not conferencing. It should be an enjoyable time for students and the teacher to share in a positive manner.
