A View from the Cheap Seats!
Out of all the pictures of D.C., this is the one I chose to highlight in my weekly opening with you all. This is the view of our hotel lobby where I spent all of Day 3. Not because someone was sick or because of an emergency…no, what kept me here was a student who was disrespectful to a teacher. I want you to know and hear me when I say that a field trip is a privilege and while I am here to ensure these students get a fun, quality middle school experience, I am also here to serve you.
Reflecting on our students, I do want them to have fun and experience all of the phenomenal things we have going on at HiRMS. We are so fortunate to be able to go so many places, represent so many classes, clubs and organizations and have the quality of learning we do. I know that it may be easy to say that those who come from wealth already have opportunity and those in poor circumstances should not be given every pardance in the book. The truth at the end of the day is that no matter what the situation they are in, they are kids and we want to give them all that we can…with appreciation and learning involved.
From a teacher perspective, you have earned the right to be respected. You have taken the time to build relationships with students, teach the content and are so eager to show them every facet of our world. You have taken time away from family, left behind students at school and taken the lengths to be involved in the planning and process of these trips.
With all that said, I don’t mind the view of the cheap seats. With the cheap seats comes the opportunity to guide, counsel, forgive and move on. We are here to support you and the kids who have earned the right to represent HiRMS. I appreciate all that you do and thank you for the priveledge to be part of this team.
Now a look at this beautiful capitol and the wonderful trip we had!
