Faculty Technology Institute 2015
May 18-22, 2015
GOALS
Our intention is to deliver sound pedagogical practices, demonstrate technological tools, showcase experiences from CofC faculty, and provide a forum for open discussion. If your class is organized in a traditional lecture format, this Faculty Technology Institute (FTI) is definitely for you. We will focus on strategies for activities, assessment, and content delivery to create a more engaging, active learning environment.
Our goals for the Summer 2015 FTIs are to have participants:
- explore pedagogical strategies targeted for moving from a direct lecture delivery style to an interactive, engaging, and active class.
- develop an engaging course/module/unit focusing on student retention.
- share best practices and lessons learned from peers in order to enhance instruction in all classes.
SESSIONS
The Teaching, Learning and Technology (TLT) Department will be offering one Faculty Technology Institute this summer. A tentative agenda is available.
Summer FTI - Scheduled May 18-22, 2015
All participants will receive a stipend and an instructional technology device that is applicable to the FTI curriculum.
EXPECTATIONS
As past FTI participants will attest, this intensive workshop is both challenging and rewarding. The FTI is purposely designed to question instructional practices and push the technological abilities of the participants. Just as CofC Faculty have high expectations for their students (attendance, participation, and assignment completion), TLT’s expectations are no different. And, like any rigorous endeavor, there are some fundamental expectations of all participants:
Approach the instructional practices with an open mind.
Attend ALL sessions, participate, and complete all of the out-of-class assignments (FTI Sessions are held from 9:00am to 4:15pm Monday – Friday. Out-of-class assignments require approximately 1 hour or more to complete.)
Complete the FTI 1-1-1 Commitment within one year after the FTI.
Examples of past 1-1-1 Commitments:
