District Boomerang Recognition

CB Cares and Tamanend Middle School recognized Joe K., a ninth grader at TMS, for his Service to Others. Joe regularly visits St. John's Hospice to help feed the men who live there. He also assists his two elderly neighbors by cutting their lawn, helping them with outdoor clean up, and shoveling their snow without being asked or accepting any money or gifts. At Tamanend, Joe helps with almost all assemblies and shows by running the lights and sound board in the auditorium. He trains other students and he assists the adults who are presenting. Recently, Joe was nominated by his peers as the most U.G.L.Y.... that is, the most Understanding, Generous, Loyal Young person at Tamanend. And no matter who he is helping, you can count on Joe doing so with a smile. We are proud of Joe for his nomination and recognition for Service to Others. He is a model of service at Tamanend and across CBSD. Thank you, Joe!

Science Olympiad

Tamanend’s Science Olympiad Team had a phenomenal day at the regional competition at Cabrini College. They competed against 34 other middle schools in events. Our team worked really hard to research and, in some cases, built their own equipment to compete. With one of the youngest teams competing, Tamanend was able to place in the top ten schools for two of the events. Rachel W. and Blair B. took 9th place overall for Crimebusters, a forensic science event. Vahan K. and Rachel W. took 7th place overall for their Astronomy event. Connor B. took 1st place for his Keep the Heat event where he designed an apparatus that was able to regulate temperature. Other members of the team that contributed to TMS' strong standing were Dan C., Emmitt N., Lilah B., Edward L., Shayna C., Josh R., Michael E., Mathew S., and Sameer M.. A special thanks to Mrs. Wilhelm, Mrs. Price, and Mrs. Brumbaugh for their leadership and support. Gooooooooooooooooooooooo Science!

Geography Bee Winner

Back in January, Tommy F. won the Tamanend Geography Bee and he has since completed the qualifying test. Now, Tommy is making plans to compete in the Pennsylvania Geography Bee on April 6th. We are so proud of all of your hard work, Tommy.

CB Cares "Winning Hand" Poster Contest Winner

CB Cares is running a "Winning Hand" anti-drug campaign to lift up our many young people who have lots of things in their "winning hand" that make them too busy for alcohol and drugs. Katie O.'s design was selected to represent Tamanend's winning hand." Pictured here with her parents, Katie's artwork shows her involvement in music, tennis, theater, community service, reading, and art... now that IS a winning hand!

We had numerous, wonderful submissions to consider for this art contest. Honorable mention goes to Jacob O. and Alisa Y. Congratulations to everyone for their "winning hands."

Spread the Word to End the Word

The R-word is the word 'retard(ed)'. Why does it hurt? The R-word hurts because it is exclusive. It's offensive. It's derogatory. Our campaign asks people to pledge to stop saying the R-word as a starting point toward creating more accepting attitudes and communities for all people. Language affects attitudes and attitudes affect actions. Pledge today to use respectful, people-first language.

Tamanend Jazz Festival

This Friday night, come out to Tamanend's Auditorium to hear eight different local middle school's Jazz bands as they compete plus exhibitions by the CB South Jazz Ensemble and Tamanend's Jazz Band and Symphonic Swing Ensemble. We start at 7 p.m. and admission is $5 for adults. Students and children are free.

Building Resiliency

CB Cares is sponsoring a presentation by Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg who will talk about Resilience in Action: Raising Children and Adolescents Who are Prepared to Thrive. Dr. K. Ginsburg is a pediatrician at CHOP and author of Building Resilience in Children and Teens. His presentation will be at CB South HS on March 19th at 7 p.m.. His book can be found at the Doylestown Bookshop for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from his book sales will benefit CB Cares Educational Foundation. For more information, click here.
