The Mystery of Pompeii

When did it occur? Who was involved?
Pompeii occured August 24th 79 A.D around noon the top of Mount Vesuvius exploded and red burning stones and ashes shot 12 miles into the air. About 20,000 people were burned into the ash.
What was the town like before the explosion?
The town was once called "beautiful" now its called "ash". Before the eruption Pompeii was a lively place and a busy town. The town had a wall built around it, this area was about 7.5 hectares (a unit surface, or land, measures equal to 100 ares) and inside these walls was a forum. a network of streets.
Mount Vesuvius
Vesuvius is the only active volcano in mainland Europe and has produced some of the continents largest volcano eruptions. People didnt leave Pompeii even though Vesuvius was there because they didn't know what its was, it hadn't erupted for years and they thought it was just a mountain.
The past and present of Pompeii
Pompeii was originaly discovered by the queen and king of Naples in the 16th-17th century but after the massive explosion that left many people dead (about 2,000) and some injured there were survivors during this eruption (about 90 percent reached safety after this disastrous event) . Pompeii was rediscovered excavations of the area began, Pompeii was easier to dig/scoop out than Herculaneum which was a Roman town destroyed by a volcano and became a more popular site to explore.
