FWAABSE
Volume 2, April Edition
"Quote of the Month"
President's Messege
One exceptional teacher can change a child’s life, but students — especially those disadvantaged by poverty and many who may be students of color, need consistently great teaching to thrive. One of the most important rolls of a leader is to hire the right staff for students of color.
While teachers of all ethnicities and backgrounds bring content and pedagogy, Kelly Evans 2017, states teachers of color bring benefits to classrooms beyond educational practices. In other words just having a Black or Hispanic teacher in the classroom isn’t enough. They must be strong teachers, so diversity and excellence go hand in hand and students benefit from the unique experiences and perspectives that diversity brings. Leaders should focus on hiring such teachers as well as focus on creating conditions and an environment that promotes retention of strong teachers of color.
