In the Classroom
* Identify clues in your body to how you are feeling
* It is important to talk to an adult if you are worried
1st grade will learn about showing care and concern for others (empathy and compassion) and begin our emotion management unit and identifying feelings in our bodies.
* Compassion is empathy in action
* identify feelings by physical clues in your body
2nd grade lessons will focus on predicting feelings in others (empathy: understanding how others feel) and also identifying feelings in our bodies.
* Predict others' feeling in situations
* Identify physical clues in your body that can help you name how you are feeling.
3rd grade will also be learning about emotion management:
* Identify feelings in your body
* Using self-talk to calm down
* Counting to calm down
4th graders will be using their calm down steps to avoid jumping to conclusions and also have a lesson on asking for help. Sometimes problems are too big for kids to handle on their own and they need safe people to express their feelings and concerns to.
* Use Stop, Name your feeling, Calm Down steps
* Safety plan including how to ask for help
5th grade will use their calm down steps to manage frustration and resisting revenge. We will also have a lesson on asking for help. Sometimes problems are too big for kids to handle on their own and they need safe people to express their feelings and concerns to.

* Additionally, 5th graders will have their first visit from Discovery Middle School and begin our transition talks! Please let me know if you have any concerns about this process.
Kindness Week 2023!
February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day and we will be celebrating all week long at Eagles. Ask your child what kind things they did or saw at school and check out the link below for ideas on how to encourage kindness at home and in the community!
