Forest Grove Family Falcon Update
Forest Grove Family Falcon update
January 12, 2023 - January 19, 2023
Message from the Principal
Dear Forest Grove Families and Staff,
I am very proud of our entire school. Students, staff and families have exercised their flexibility with the challenges the stormy weather presented to us this week. Today, we absolutely enjoyed the sunny day and all the students enjoyed playing outdoors during recess.
As we anticipate additional days of rain, let me express my gratitude for your patience and continued flexibility for the days to come. Student council have been making the daily announcements and reminding everyone to SOAR being Safe, On-task, Accountable and Respectful.
1, 2, 3...Go Falcons!
Yours in education,
Irene Preciado., PhD

Forest Grove Falcon Family Faculty/Staff Spotlight
Kelly San Filippo - Forest Grove Elementary - Super Sub
Background & Education
I was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and grew up in the Midwest on a farm outside of Salina, Kansas. I moved to Monterey when I was in the third grade. I graduated from Stevenson School, Class of '90, and went to UC Davis for my undergrad degree, a B.S. in Human Development in 1994. I went to St. Mary's College in Moraga for my multiple subject elementary teaching credential. After St. Mary's, I moved home to Monterey and began my teaching career. I've taught grades 2nd - 6th, and 8th in various schools in the Monterey area: Mission Union School (Soledad), Stevenson, All Saints, Chartwell, Bay View Academy and now FGE. From 2001-2005, I lived in Washington State and taught 5th and 6th Math/Science/Language Arts at St. Thomas School. Tired of the doom and gloom of the PNW, I moved home again and I've been here since! In 2008, I got my M.Ed. with an emphasis in Administration & Educational Leadership from Chapman (Brandman) University.
Believe it or not, I met my husband, Russ, on Match . com in 2006! We married in 2008 and in 2009, our son, Ethan was born. In 2010, our second son, Aidan was born. In 2018, we moved to Pacific Grove. We have a 2 year-old Golden Retriever, Finn. Our families live in the area and the Peninsula is home!
Interests
I love being outside, gardening, walking Finn, exercising, watching my boys play sports and their instruments, and spending time with family. I love taking family long vacations in June before fire season ramps up (Russ is a firefighter in Piedmont) and am looking forward to traveling overseas as the boys get older!
One Favorite Elementary School Memory
In Salina, KS, I attended a two-room school, grades 1-3 in one room and 4-6 in another. I remember my 1st-3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Favors, with fond memories. I do remember having a tornado drill and having to squeeze into a bathroom with my classmates! It was a small school community...my favorite activity outside of school was 4-H. I learned to bake and cook (I still have my cookbooks!), entered my art drawing into the county fair, and was a sunflower in the 4th of July parade.
What do you love about Forest Grove Elementary School?
I love that our faculty and staff are so supportive of one another and of our students and families. There isn't anything we wouldn't do for one another and for our families. It's an amazing community!
Mrs. San Filippo, you take pride in your work. We appreciate all your hard work at Forest Grove!
Program Highlight
Super Substitute
Pacific Grove Unified School District made a commitment to support each school site with an additional substitute who would support each school and would be available on a daily basis. Typically, a substitute teacher selects a job for the day the substitute teacher is available to support the school. The job as a Super Substitute is posted and teachers apply and go through a selection process. Once selected, the teacher follows the work day schedule as all other teachers.
The Super Substitutes across the district provide school sites with support and coverage in classes supporting classrooms as substitute teachers in any classroom. For Forest Grove Elementary, we are very lucky to have Mrs. San Filippo support our teachers, staff, students and community. Often, she often supports the classrooms, but she also supports intervention and recess as well as other programs. The daily on site support has made a great difference at Forest Grove Elementary School.
