1. Your name and position in Ajman Academy?
My name is Heidi Groesche. I am a Grade 4 teacher and Grade Leader at Ajman Academy.
2. Where are you from?
I was born in Hagen/ Westfalen. This is in western Germany, near Dortmund (Borussia Dortmund forever!)
3. Do you have a family?
I am married with three children. Two boys and one girl aged 10, 10 and 15.
4. Your childhood nickname?
My childhood nickname was ‘Julchen’, which actually has nothing to do with my given name. My parents just made it up.
5. What's your favourite food?
Apart from chocolate, unfortunately everything!
6. What are your hobbies?
Hiking, kayaking, reading and cooking.
7. Where's your favourite place in the UAE?
Definitely the RAK Mountains. Hiking and abseiling are great for weekends in Winter.
8. Most memorable experience as a teacher so far?
Every time when you can literally see a surprising understanding of how the world works in a child’s face.
9. Can you share with us the funniest moment in your teaching career?
The answer to a math task I had given one my students:
Q: What is the difference in price between the pizza and the hotdog?
A: They taste differently ...
10. How about the most challenging moment in your teaching career?
The moment when I realized that things develop step by step, not overnight. As they say, patience is a virtue.
11. Who's your childhood hero?
Pippi Longstocking (a character in a book written by Astrid Lindgren). She is a courageous, strong little girl who masters her everyday with fun, creativity and honesty.
12. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?
I would be a chef in my own restaurant with only 12 seats.
