Principal's Message
Dear Holliman Families,
On Friday, January 5th, the Rhode Island Department of Education released all Rhode Island School's accountability ratings. Holliman has remained a 3-Star school. I am extremely proud of the work our teachers and students have been doing to sustain and increase student achievement and growth in the areas of reading and math. Last year's RICAS assessment scores served as a baseline for measuring post pandemic achievement. The goals, initiatives and activities that are part of our School Improvement Plan are aligned with increasing student achievement. I would not be surprised if we attain 4 stars next school year! I am equally as proud of the hard work our Multi-Lingual Learners (MLL) have done in achieving 5 stars for English language proficiency. In the area of attendance, we have maintained the 3-star status. With the presence of Covid and other childhood illnesses, I understand that students must miss school if they are sick. In the upcoming months, our school level teams will be looking closely at attendance trends and patterns to see how to best support our students towards decreasing chronic absenteeism. Below is a screen shot from Holliman's RIDE Report Card which can be viewed in its entirety in the link below.
I continue to be honored to serve as the principal of Holliman and I am looking forward to what lies ahead for our students' overall academic achievement and social emotional well-being. I am grateful for your continued support and trust in me to lead Holliman.
Please know that our doors are always open, and we welcome your feedback, ideas, and involvement in our school community. Don't hesitate to reach out to our staff or myself if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you'd like to share. My direct line, which receives phone calls and text messages is 401-871-4145.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cabana

Indoor Vs. Outdoor Recess
Students need to expend energy; enjoy the fresh air and soak up some vitamin D during their recess,
as often as possible. Unless it is raining, or there would be a danger of allowing outdoor recess, the
students should go outside for recess if the temperature is 32 degrees or above.
RI STATE POLICY 16-21-36. Outdoor recess
No elementary school or private preschool shall permit recess to be held outdoors when the local
temperature falls below thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit (32oF)/ zero degrees Celsius (0oC).

Sharing of Food Reminder
Often students like to share their lunch with others. Though this is a very kind gesture, please remind your child to not offer food to other students and/or not to accept food that is not theirs. We have many students with food allergies and want to be sure students are only consuming their lunch from home or school purchased lunch. Thank you!
