Greetings Pandas,
I hope you are enjoying the school year. Nearly one month has passed since we reopened our campus to students. Our teachers have been working harder than ever, engaging two groups of students in simultaneous teaching and learning. Our staff has done an extraordinary job keeping our campuses as safe and as clean as possible.
I’d like to invite you to an informative and important virtual event. The Department of Choice and Career Options will host “Innovate Your World,” the 24th annual Showcase of Schools in a virtual setting this year, as students and parents gather details about sought-after Choice and Career programs across the District. Unlike the typical one-night event in past years, this year’s online platform will be available starting on Tuesday, October 20, and running throughout the Choice application window.
The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with a Facebook Live information session with Choice and Career Department leaders. The Showcase of Schools opens immediately following, at 5:00 p.m. The goal of Choice and Career Options is to engage students by offering programs that meet their unique interests and prepare them for post-graduate success. Many programs also offer students the opportunity to earn industry certifications. The Choice application window will open on November 2, 2020.
It is vital that both parents and students continue to remain fully aware of the latest updates to important information:
● Making Your Choice 2.0 is the School District of Palm Beach County’s consistency plan for each semester to ascertain the students who intend to switch from Virtual to Brick and Mortar or Brick and Mortar to Virtual. On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, the desired learning platform selected by the parent/student will be implemented. No further changes for the First Semester unless a waiver request for extenuating circumstances is submitted to, and approved by school administration.
● Teacher/Schedule Changes for Students: School leaders around the district are working diligently to minimize disruption by avoiding teacher changes. At times, schedule changes due to a change in teacher assignments or students’ choice in the desired learning platform may be necessary.
● Student Attendance Policy: All students are expected to attend school regularly and to be on time for classes in order to benefit from the instructional program and to develop habits of punctuality, self-discipline, and responsibility. Each student is required to attend classes one hundred and eighty (180) days each school year. To be in compliance with these attendance requirements, students must not accumulate fifteen (15) unexcused absences in a period of ninety (90) calendar days. Policy 5.09 Absenteeism, excused or unexcused, regardless of the reason, negatively affects the continuity of the learning process. As a student’s absenteeism increases, there is a greater responsibility for the school to deter future absenteeism, and there is a greater responsibility for the student to demonstrate that such absenteeism has not negatively affected performance mastery. Refer to Student and Family Handbook and Modified Distance Learning Student Attendance.
● Assessments/Tests: The SDPBC provides student assessments/tests that align with the Florida Standards. The purpose of these quizzes and tests is to allow your child’s teacher to make informed decisions related to student learning and overall class instruction, as well as to measure whether the student learned the content taught and if the resources used to teach the standards were effective.
Students will be required to take assessments after instructional units and lessons have been taught and assigned by their classroom teacher during online classroom instruction. Some assessments may be scheduled outside of the digital classroom, however, each assessment is monitored by classroom teachers and scored within the Performance Matters platform.
It is important that you do not help your child with answering questions on these assessments, but that you provide support and encouragement to ensure the information received accurately reflects what your child knows and what your child still needs to learn.

Fall Diagnostic Testing
Next week fourth and fifth grade students will take the Fall Diagnostic Exam in Reading and Math. The diagnostic exam is a baseline assessment that is used for instructional planning purposes on the school and individual student levels. This data will also be used to effectively plan small group instruction. If your student receives additional time for testing due to an (Individualized Educational Plan) IEP, they will receive their accommodations as they normally would during exams. Results will appear in the SIS Gateway once the testing window closes.
Student Progress Reports
Progress reports were sent home today either electronically through the SIS Gateway, email and/or a printed version depending on your mode of instruction. If you do not receive a progress report, please reach out to the teacher first to correct the situation. The main office does not have copies of the student progress reports. If an area of concern is noted on the progress report, please contact the teacher through email or Class Dojo to schedule a parent conference.
New T-Shirt Vendor
We now have a new Poinciana T-Shirt vendor for all your school T-Shirt needs. Below you will find a statement written by the vendor regarding COVID and safety measures.

Saludos Pandas,

Mwen ta renmen envite ou nan Ekspozisyon Vityèl Lekòl yo Depatman Chwa ak Opsyon Karyè pral òganize ki gen pou tèm "Inove mond ou!". 24yèm Ekspozisyon an ap fèt nan yon anviwònman vityèl ane sa a, pandan yo lakay yo, elèv yo ak paran yo ranmase detay sou pwogram chwa ak karyè nan Distri a. Kontrèman ak fason nou konn fè l pandan yon sèl apremidi a, ekspozisyon vityèl la ap disponib de jou madi 20 Oktòb la pou rive jis lè peryòd enskripsyon an fini.
Ekspozisyon an ap kòmanse a 4 p.m. madi 20 Oktòb ak yon sesyon Facebook Live lidè Depatman Chwa ak Karyè ap prezante. Ekspozisyon an ap kòmanse imedyatman apre a 5:00 p.m. Objektif Chwa ak Karyè Opsyon yo se angaje elèv yo nan ofri yo pwogram ki satisfè enterè inik yo epi prepare yo pou siksè apre yo fin gradye. Anpil pwogram ofri elèv yo tou opòtinite pou jwenn sètifikasyon endistri yo. Pereyòd aplikasyon an ap ouvri 2 novanm 2020.
Mèkredi 4 novanm 2020, yo pral aplike platfòm aprantisaj paran / elèv yo vle chwazi a. Pa gen lòt chanjman pou Premye semès la sof si yo soumèt yon demann ekzanksyon pou sikonstans espesyal ki apwouve pa administrasyon lekòl la.
• Pwofesè / Chanjman Orè pou Elèv yo: lidè lekòl yo ap travay avèk dilijans pou minimize deranjman nan evite chanjman pwofesè yo. Pafwa, chanjman orè kapab nesesè akòz yon chanjman nan pwofesè oswa chwa elèv yo nan platfòm aprantisay la.
• Règleman sou Prezans Elèv: Tout elèv yo dwe patisipe lekòl regilyèman epi yo dwe alè pou klas yo pou yo kapab benefisye de pwogram ansèyman an epi devlope abitid ponktyalite, otodisiplin, ak responsablite. Règleman 5.09 Absans, eskize oswa san eskiz, kèlkeswa rezon an, afekte negativman kontinite pwosesis aprantisay la.
