FAFSA Help
Seniors (and Parents/Guardians):
Get Help With Your FAFSA Form
Are you getting ready to fill out and file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? Do you need help completing the form? Receive free FAFSA Assistance from Iowa College Access Network.
- Several documents are needed for both the student and parents:
Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and dates of birth.
2018 federal and state tax returns.
2018 W-2 forms and other records of income earned last year.
Current bank statements and investment records.
Records of untaxed income received last year (e.g., TANF, child support received, etc.)
FSA ID & password-to set up this up go to www.fsaid.ed.gov both student & parent will need an FSA ID and password.

Plan Your Adventure-MAP-ACADEMIC AND CAREER PLANNING

- Make a list of colleges that interest you. Become familiar with their entrance requirements. Ultimately plan to apply to 7-16 four year colleges, and/or two or three two-year colleges. The more competition there is for you, the more generous colleges tend to be.
- Prepare to market your extracurricular skill with a 90 second video of showcasing your instrument or sport. Send the link to theater or music department heads or athletic coaches at the colleges that interest you. Their responses will help finalize your college list.
- Talk with friends and family about their college experiences and your possible plans.
- Keep adding to your activities resume. Include academic successes, awards, leadership positions, and struggles (adversity can often be the best college essay material). Track community service hours. Pursue leadership roles.
- With your parents, grow your college savings plan, such as a 529 or prepaid tuition plan.
- Virtually research colleges of interest by visiting the respective websites.
- Fill out the FAFSA!!!
- Start early on your applications for colleges for the best possible chances at scholarships. Essays are key and matter more than ever. Send updated transcripts to colleges where you have open applications. Follow Up!
