Greetings QES Pioneer Families!
Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful Mothers this weekend! We hope it is a special day for you, and you have the opportunity for some YOU time this weekend.
A big thanks and shout out to our wonderful PCO who spoiled our staff this week with lots of treats, gift cards, lunch and special door decorations! We felt the love and we appreciate our supportive PCO friends! Thank you!
Plumas Schools has a recognition week for all staff on May 17-21. If you haven't already, our teachers and other staff who go the extra distance to make your child's day special would greatly appreciate a short letter or card expressing your gratitude. School employees live for this stuff, and will save those thoughtful letters or cards for years to come. Thanks for considering!
QES Pioneer Book Fair will be here May 17-21. Our wonderful PCO will be sponsoring the event in the cafeteria on the stage. We will have to abide by social distancing and mask wearing while inside the cafeteria. More information to come soon. We appreciate all your support of our PCO and we always encourage more books in the home.
Employment Opportunities! With our return to full day instruction, we are going to be needing some more help. We will need part time aides and lunch supervisors, plus more. Please visit our website or give us a call to learn more. Thanks!
100 books Principal's Challenge! Read, read-to, or read-with 100 books by the end of May! Students can count up to 2 books/week they read with their teacher, but we want to also encourage students to be practicing their reading outside of their time with their teacher, and develop healthy reading. So far, we have 2nd: Auggie, Sterling, 1st River, K Emily, Jace, Kaylin, Ben and Calliope who have all completed the Principal's 100 Books Read Challenge. Great job you 8! Who else?
In closing, we appreciate your ongoing support and partnership to provide the best possible elementary educational experience for our students.
Enjoy your Mother's Day weekend!

Hello Alder Families:
Hello QES Alder Families,
Thank you to our PCO for the delicious treats this week! We certainly feel appreciated.
This week's Cougar Cup went to the class with the most spirited class cheer. It was hard to choose! All of the cheers were amazingly creative. Congratulations to Ms. Brown's class for receiving the cup. Next week: Hula Hoop Ro Sham Bo Tournament.
We really enjoyed the district-wide Mark Kistler assembly today. Don't be surprised if your student comes home inspired to try out new 3-D drawing skills!
Cell Phone Policy: Please remember that our cell phone policy is to have student phones turned off and inside backpacks until dismissal.
Happy Mother's Day! Enjoy the weekend.
Please remind your child to bring a reusable water bottle. The weather is heating up and we cannot use our drinking fountains due to pandemic protocols.
Dismissal:
Many of you have made alternate arrangements for pick up to avoid the car line and this is understandable. An unintended consequence of this is we now have large groups of unsupervised students walking off-campus. Please use the car line if you can in order to keep students safe. If you do not plan on using the car line, then please talk to your student about using sidewalks and crosswalks.
Our schedule beginning April 26th is:
8:20 to 2:40 M-Th
8:20 to 12:00 on Fridays.
Employment needs: With students returning we are hiring paraeducators and teachers. Keep an eye on the PUSD website or give us a call if you are interested in working at QES.
March Madness is done! And the Winner is....Shark Lady!!!! Some of our staff dressed up like the book characters for the big reveal!
NO ZEROES!!! We have a campaign to be a school where no one has missing assignments or zeroes! Please help us get there by encouraging your student to turn in all of their work. What a great thing -to be able to showcase QES students for being a school where there are no zeroes. And, in elementary school, no zeroes means no Fs. How wonderful!
We have a 2021 School Motto. Our Student Council has branded this year's QES theme:
Keeping Hope and Kindness Alive at QES!! It is a fitting tribute to our wonderful students.
If you have any concerns or suggestions we would love to hear them. Please do not hesitate to email lhollister@pcoe.k12.ca.us or call 283-6557. You can also contact Mrs. Hollister or your teacher using the Parent Square app.
And the Cougar Cup goes to: Ms. Brown's class!!!
