Romona Review
11.10.17
From the Principal
What a wonderful week! On Monday & Tuesday, Mrs. Imburgia, Dr. Lechner, and I were so proud to represent the entire Romona community at the National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C. But the true joy was in bringing the award back to our school and sharing it with our students on Wednesday. A huge thank you to the HMS Wire Choir and the WJHS Dance Team who came over to celebrate with us and made our celebration a very fun event!
During our celebration, Daniel and Marabelle, two of our third grade students, shared their thoughts about Romona and their words capture what makes Romona a National Blue Ribbon School:
- A place of inspiration, creativity, and kindness
- A place of high level achievement and overall academic excellence
- A place where children, teachers, paraprofessionals, office workers, custodians, cafeteria workers, families and community come together to provide a safe, welcoming and stimulating learning environment for our children
Thank you for all you do to make Romona a Blue Ribbon school!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Cindy

BOOK FAIR
Shop before the holidays and support our school. The book fair is November 14-16 (with online shopping from November 8-21). This year, in addition to providing new books for the Romona Learning Commons, purchases will also benefit our sister school, West Elementary in Zion, IL. Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00am–3:00pm, Thursday from 9:00am-1:00pm and Family Night is Wednesday from 6:00pm–7:30pm. Flyers and more detailed information will be coming home with students in the next couple of weeks.
DONATE TO IGNITE TODAY
Every student at Romona has access to innovative, hands-on programs that not only bring to life the curriculum taught in schools but helps build skill sets integral to future success like field trips, outside speakers and performances. What you might not know is that these programs are NOT paid for by the school district. They are funded by Romona families through IGNITE.
IGNITE is the Romona PTA's way to fund these enrichment activities for our students. It aims to enhance curriculum-based learning, build skills that drive characteristics of successful learners, and promote social and emotional awareness. Every dollar you donate goes directly back to your children and is tax deductible! If you haven't already donated, please consider doing so. IGNITE a passion for learning!
A TO Z & PTA MEMBERSHIP
Parents, want to stay involved in the PTA happenings at Romona Elementary? It is important to log into your A to Z account, verify your personal information and "opt in" to receiving PTA e-mails. For those of you who did not receive the initial e-mail, please contact our directory chair at directory@romonapta.org
We encourage all parents to verify their data to ensure that they can be easily contacted, but only paid PTA members will be able to view the entire directory and use it for looking up a student’s name and get GPS driving directions to their home, filtering students by class to get class or grade level lists, e-mailing, texting, or calling parents directly from the app as well as marking favorite contacts for easy access.
