Principal Message
On Friday, Pershing sent home with students one Student at Home COVID-19 Test Kit with two tests for each student. Information regarding the testing kit can be found here:
At-home COVID-19 test kits available to students
While San Juan Unified strongly recommends that students utilize these tests as COVID-19 cases are on the rise, there is no requirement to have a negative test to be able to attend school. Testing students at home is voluntary and test kits are provided as a way to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. San Juan Unified encourages families to use one of the tests this weekend and the second test as needed. If a student has been tested within the last five days, families may also consider saving both tests for later use.
If students receive a positive test result, families should:
- Report the result to their medical provider.
- Contact the school office to report their test result: 916-979-8076
- Keep students home from school until they are cleared to return. School sites will advise families of their students’ return date.
- Report sibling exposures to their school attendance office and keep them home until they are cleared to return as siblings and other family members are considered close contact exposures and will also need to quarantine.
Students who have been symptomatic and those wanting to be released from a modified quarantine early must have a negative test result from a medical provider or testing site. You can find more information on testing availability at www.sanjuan.edu/covidtest. Home tests cannot be used as clearance to return to school if symptomatic or on a modified or at-home quarantine.
Monday, January 10th, students in 3rd through 6th grades will begin to take the iReady test online in class, helping teachers and staff to monitor student learning and progress. Please encourage your child to do his or her best, ensure they get enough rest, and remind your child that this assessment is just one tool we use to determine student progress and learning needs.
Also, the SJUSD Annual Survey will be shared Monday with families, staff and intermediate students (4th - 6th grades) to gather feedback and input about Pershing. Links will be sent to you online, but paper formats are also available. Your input and feedback help us to reflect on current practices and to plan adjustments for the future through a process of continuous improvement. I thank you for your input, feedback and participation in advance.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kendra Shelton
Principal
