Fammatre Principal Message

Principal Message
Dear Fammatre Families,
I hope everyone is well and you were able to find some enjoyment and relaxation over spring break. We are looking forward to resuming distance learning this morning.
Please continue to check emails as well as teachers’ Google or Seesaw Classrooms for updated assignments and communication. Each teacher has committed to sending families a summary of the upcoming week's plan by 9:00 am on Mondays. Included in this plan, your child's teacher will let you know the dates/times for any live video conferencing sessions for the week. Please take a moment to review this important notice regarding expectations and considerations around participating in and recording of live video sessions. It is also important that you review these live video class session guidelines with your child.
Although assigned work is optional during this distance learning period due to the many variables outside of our control, it is expected that students will engage in learning, complete work, and participate to the extent possible. It is also expected that teachers provide meaningful feedback to your children to keep students engaged and making progress. Please reach out to your child's teacher if difficulties arise in accessing or completing the work. It is our goal to provide as much access to content as possible through the remaining weeks of the school year to ensure your children master the essential content standards to prepare them for the next grade level.
Knowing that shelter in place has been extended through the end of the school year, we recognize that this is a very unsettling and challenging time for students, families and our community at large. In Cambrian, we are committed to educating the whole child. This means providing education as well as supporting social, emotional and physical growth and enrichment. Here are some additional resources https://www.cambriansd.org/Page/3580 to support your child's social and emotional well-being during this school closure period.
Additionally, we want to make certain we get tools in your hands so students have access to the digital learning aspects needed for distance learning. If your student is in need of a Chromebook loaner, please fill out the request on the following link: Chromebook Request.
WiFi Access
If you do not have access to Wi-Fi in your home, we are suggesting two options:
Comcast free Wi-Fi hotspots called xfinitywifi (https://wifi.xfinity.com/faq.php).
You may also qualify for 60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service from Comcast. Please see https://www.internetessentials.com for more information.
With so many adults away from work, it is critical that we continue to provide the necessary resources. Families may receive free breakfast and lunch daily Monday through Friday from 11- 1 PM. A drive-up food pickup service is available at Price Middle School, 2650 New Jersey Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124.
You can also reference our school district website for additional guides and resources to help us all through this new learning Cambrian School District.
Sincerely,
Jackie Smith

Questions, Feedback, Ideas about Distance Learning
I will look for common themes and try to address them in future communications.
11th Annual Fammatre Starlight Auction - Message from Fammatre's HSC President
As part of our auction this year we decided that in addition to our date night we would also have it online. Well fast forward and we are now sheltered in place. This is so unreal. So now as a Board we are faced with a tough decision. Do we go forward with our online portion?
We are very sensitive to the struggles that families are having right now. We are also very sympathetic to the hardships that businesses are having. With an already dire fiscal situation in education, we expect there will be even bigger than anticipated budgetary challenges for Fammatre next year. So after much thought and consideration, we are going to move forward with the online auction since it was all set and ready to go.
We hope to bring our Fammatre community together as now anyone who wants to can participate. You can do it as a family. The money raised will not be earmarked for anything in particular at this time. This money will be used where it’s deemed most needed next year. We are also going to donate a portion of the money raised to Second Harvest Food Bank, so Fammatre continues to support those in need.
We hope that you are able to join us 4/13 to 4/18 but please understand there is no obligation it’s purely voluntary.
