Dear Prairie Families,
Thank you to our families who attended our virtual Back-to-School Night this week! It was great to share our expectations and routines for the year. We want to maintain home-to-school communication with you. Feel free to reach out to your teacher and/or the front office via Parent Square, email or by phone. Our students are supported best when we work as a team.
We need your help for our William's Act Visitation on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. The Yolo County Office of Education will visit to verify that each students has the necessary textbooks and Chromebook. WE NEED EACH STUDENT TO BRING THEIR CHROMEBOOK TO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2021. If your child's Chromebook has been lost or damaged, please notify the front office so that we can resolve the issue.
We are looking for nominations for one parent representative for our School Site Council this week. Please see the message below to nominate someone. We can't do the work we do without parent support.
We are still in need of Noon Duty Yard Supervisors for our lunch period. We need help between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in applying.

What we need in order to process a nomination for the ballot:
- Name of Nominee
- Phone number and Email address
- Optional Brief Statement to be written on the ballot - We find candidates who are successful in the election process write a brief statement about what they do for a living, why they are interested in this role, how many students they have at Gibson or how long they have been with Gibson.
- If you do not hear from Mrs. Schevenin that your nomination has been received, it hasn't! Please reach out again.
School Site Council is composed of equal numbers of staff and parent representatives who serve a two-year term. They meet 5-7 times a year to oversee the implementation of various programs in the school, including state and federally-funded programs. The School Site Council is a governing body that is responsible for deciding how to spend categorical money to improve the instructional program here at Prairie Elementary. Each school in the district receives a different amount of money, based on enrollment. The School Site Council members work together to set goals for improving student achievement at the school and allocating the funds to accomplish those goals.
For the coming school year, we have ONE parent opening. Our first meeting for newly elected members will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 6:00-7:00pm via ZOOM. The council will review future meeting times and dates at our first meeting.
This is a two-year position. The membership term is September 2021 through September 2023.
Agendas for meetings are posted in our office window at least 72 hours prior to the meeting and we post the minutes on our website.
All parents and members of the public are welcome to attend.
AERIES Parent Portal Data Confirmation
We need all of our families to complete the data confirmation process in Aeries Parent Portal this week. The window has been extended until September 17th. Please ensure that you have an accurate parent email address and phone number on file for communication and emergency purposes.
We are happy to help you with this process in the office. We are open 8:00-4:00.
STUDENT COUNCIL 2021-2022
We are excited to introduce our Student Council members for 2021-2022:

The Student Council will be led by Ms. Renteria and Ms. Perez-Quirarte. Congratulations to our elected members!
Student council is a group of students elected by peers to participate in designated areas of school government. Any student is generally welcome to attend the council meetings.
Generally, councils participate in the planning of school events. At Prairie, they also assist administration with morning announcements. Student council members bring ideas, requests, and feedback to the meetings and a democratic process is used to give students a voice and make decisions in creating a year-long calendar. Students who participate in student councils, under the supervision of a teacher or administrator, learn about the democratic process, civic responsibility, leadership, problem solving, and teamwork.

ASES After-school Program
Breakfast & Lunch
The cafeteria opens daily from 7:45-8:00 a.m. for breakfast. Our kitchen stops serving breakfast at 8:00 AM. Be sure to arrive early. Breakfast is free to all students. Students eating breakfast may go inside of the cafeteria. STUDENTS MUST ENTER THROUGH THE SIDE DOOR BY THE FLAGPOLE. Students are not to be on the campus before 7:45 a.m. as there is no supervision.
A free lunch will be served to all students unless they bring lunch from home. The food is to be eaten by Prairie students only unless it is purchased.
This year, all K-1 students will keep their Chromebooks at school. Students in grades 2-6 will be asked to carry them to and from school. Be sure to charge your Chromebook and bring it back to school in its sleeve for day 1. Please call the front office if you have lost or damaged your Chromebook.
