Colts Chronicle
Cimarron Middle School Newsletter - February 02, 2019
Colts Chronicle provides information to parents, students, staff, and community.
Principal Notes:
Dear Cimarron Families,
The students and staff have had a great start to this semester. Our students have had a lot of energy coming back to school and are excited to be with their friends and teachers.
We often talk about the rapid growth of middle school students. The iceberg illusion is a perfect example of the failures, hard work, dedication, persistence and sacrifice students and parents go through. It takes perseverance to be a middle school student.
As parents, teachers and community members we embrace the struggles to be able to get to the tip of the iceberg. Middle school students need constant reminders of the values that create successful human beings such as hard work, dedication, working through failure and persevering through disappointment.
This February, take time as a family to talk through some of the values that will lead to success and happiness.
Thank you for allowing us to teach your children and as always reach out to us if you need any support.
Thanks,
Chris Zimmerman, Principal

Cimarron's Third Annual Celebration of Learning
Dear Cimarron Parents:
Collaboration and communication with our parents is a vital component of student success at Cimarron Middle School. In lieu of Parent-Teacher conferences this spring, Cimarron Middle School will once again host a “Celebration of Learning.” As a result of hosting this event, individual conferences with teachers and teams about your student’s progress will not occur. Please have a conversation with your student and visit Infinite Campus for current grade status.
What is a Celebration of Learning? Celebrations of Learning are more than a display of student work and more than a party at the end of the year. The events compel students to reflect on and articulate what they have learned, how they learned, questions they answered, research they conducted, and areas of strength and struggles. They are powerful opportunities to make learning public. A Celebration of Learning includes: high quality work, an authentic audience, communicating learning, and student reflection.

Legend Begins
Hello Future Titans
Thank you all for attending the Legend Academic Programming Night in December 2018. Legend is truly a unique school that offers specific programs to ensure we reach our vision of "the relentless pursuit to challenge, communicate, create and connect learning," for every student.
Our specific programming of AVID, EDGE, Concurrent Enrollment and Career to Technical Education has created incredible and unique opportunities for our students to be fully prepared beyond high school. We would like to follow up to ensure your family is able to take advantage of our programming opportunities.
EDGE
The EDGE program is an interdisciplinary, project-based learning model that seeks to personalize learning for students while engaging in memorable learning experiences such as internships, job shadowing, field experiences connected to projects and passion workshops utilizing the expertise of our community.
The EDGE student is an independent and passionate learner motivated to pursue his or her unique interests in preparation for goals extending beyond the high school experience. EDGE students will be motivated to explore the world around them while working to develop and apply real-world success skills.
The early application deadline for EDGE is January 18th. The regular application for EDGE is February 1st. The EDGE application can be found at LegendEDGE.org under Academics.
AVID
AVID is a College Readiness System that gives structured support in rigorous coursework, organizational and study skills, and development of critical thinking.
The AVID student at Legend is a student with a 2.2-3.0 GPA. It is for students who truly need some help navigating high school in preparation for college. The AVID student will...
- Achieve At Higher Levels
- Build Greater Self-Advocacy
- Increase Study Capacity
- Develop Consistency With Organization
- Enhance Efficacy
The AVID application can be found on the Legend website under Academic Programs. The application is due February 1st.
CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT
Legend offers multiple Concurrent Enrollment classes that students can sign up for as a general Legend student, or as part of their pathway in AVID or EDGE. When registering for classes in February, any class with a CE prior to the class title is offered for Concurrent Enrollment. Ex: CE MGD 101 Intro to Graphic Design. These classes partner with Arapahoe Community College for guaranteed transferable credit.
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Career and Technical Education (CTE) are programs offered for juniors and seniors in the district. They range from Fire Science to Automotive, Culinary to Early Childhood Education. For more information on these programs, please click here.
We know that students will find a pathway that is best for them as they begin their Titan journey in the Fall of 2019.
Free Parenting Class - "When Because I Said So Doesn't Work"
'When Because I Said So Doesn't Work' - Parenting Beyond Consequences is an evidence-based curriculum that offers a trauma-informed approach to help even the most difficult children find the stability they need to thrive. Looking for Parent Volunteers
Team Caspian at Cimarron Middle School is getting ready for their annual career/college readiness project. We are inviting parents and other members of the community to come in and speak with the students about their career: what it is, how they got to be involved in the career, what they do on a day to day, pros and cons, etc., do a Q&A session, and then conducted mock interviews with the students.
This event is currently planned for Friday, February 22nd from 1:00pm to 2:45pm. And we need your help! If you or someone that you know is able to share their career info with our students, please have them visit this Signup Genius Website and share their information.
