Integrating Tech:

How Google Drive and Web 2.0 Tools Can Change Your Practice

Google Apps for Education (GAFE)

All TVDSB staff and students have access to FREE Google accounts with unlimited storage! TVDSB is in the process of changing "thamesvalleymail.ca" accounts to "GOTVDSB.ca". For example, tv12345@thamesvalleymail.ca is now tv12345@GOTVDSB.ca. It is assumed that you will still be able to access your current account for the current school year. If you do not have an account, please contact me and I'll be happy to help you and your class get started.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is designed to help teachers create and collect assignments paperlessly, including time saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document (doc) for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized.

Students can keep track of what is due on the assignment page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has and who hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback, and also deliver grades right in Classroom!

You can easily attach videos, links, and images for students to view/discuss and a the is a great application if you are considering "flipping" your classroom.

PROS:

  • Easy setup - teachers can add students directly or give students a code to join
  • Saves time - simple paperless workflow allows you to create, review, and grade assignments quickly all in one place
  • Improves Organization - students can see all of their assignments on an assignment page, and all class materials are automatically into folders
  • Enhances Communication - allows teachers to send announcements and start class discussions instantly. Students can share resources with each other or provides answers to questions on the stream.
  • Secure - contains no ads, never uses content or student data for advertising purposes

Ask me about how to share YouTube videos without the distraction (or potential danger) of advertisements!
