SV Week 29 Update

Final Week of 3rd Quarter

This week we've been busy with Boosterthon, Read-Across-America, and STEM Go-Karts, Egg-To-Chick Club, and opening games for baseball and softball! We are so glad to see the pledges coming in for our Fun-Run, and are ready for the final push to raise $40,000 for our Vipers! We would like to thank all of you who have registered, donated, and shared this info with friends and family to help out at SV. If you have not registered yet, there is still time to do so by visiting mybooster.com and making your account. On Wednesday our Boosterthon Fun Run and Color Run will take place throughout out the day to celebrate the end of our pledge drive. You will get times and details from homeroom teachers about when each grade will be participating. Parents are allowed to come watch the fun run, but there can be no siblings or children on campus who are not current students at SV.

Next week, we have our Field Days for 4-8th grade on Thursday, and for K-3 on Friday as we head into Spring Break. You will get more details from homeroom teachers next week. We look forward to a great day of fitness and fun as we head into Spring Break. Check out the attached flyers for Field Day.

DVUSD Accelerated Calendar Info

Over the past three years that students have been impacted by the pandemic, our school calendar has remained the same. The pandemic gives us a chance to think outside of the box, to look for different ways to intervene when students struggle or try to overcome learning loss or learning lag. One of those strategies is looking at a possible change from the traditional school calendar to more of an accelerated learning calendar that provides 2 week intersession breaks in the fall, winter, and spring. Student learning days remain at 180, however with the two week intersession breaks at the end of each quarter, there is greater opportunity to provide intervention and enrichment closer to the time when a student first struggles, or wishes to excel rather than months later during the summer session. The DVUSD calendar committee is reviewing different calendar options to accelerate student learning. DVUSD stakeholder groups will be able to provide input in a survey beginning February 25.

Check out the details on the DVUSD website, and be sure to take the community stakeholder survey to be sure that your voice is heard!

Thank you PBIS Rewards Donors & Volunteers!

Thanks to our dedicated group of parent volunteers, the PBIS store is open daily for students to shop. Each afternoon you can spot students delivering the items to classrooms. Thank you to Ms. Merendo and Ms. Arenda for always stepping up to assist with making sure students receive their items in a timely manner. New items this week are the Pick A Plush Animal Bin and Make Your Own Friendship Bracelets. All items were donated, with a special Thank You to Chelsea Robinson and her team at the Paradise Valley Target. We appreciate your support with our programs here at Sierra Verde.

Ms. Hopson's Art Supplies

Ms. Hopson has done a fantastic job taking over our K-8 Art program for 3rd quarter. By now you should have received a notice for your children's Artsonia account that allows you to order customized artwork they have created here in Art this year. She is hoping to add to her supply closet and give our Vipers more resources to nurture and express their creativity this year. She has created an amazon wish list that would give our students access to more art supplies and tools in art class. Any amount would be appreciated if you feel up to contributing.
