Seesaw Class Setup for Free Version

To better suit their school’s needs, some elementary schools decided to switch to the free version of Seesaw rather than the paid subscription of Seesaw for Schools. Check with your principal to see which version your school has. One of the limitations of the free version is that the District cannot do class setup, so each teacher will need to open the app and set up their class manually by entering in their students. Teachers can create their classes, and those classes will remain connected to their accounts and active even after the current subscription expires.

Creating classes as a teacher while still connected to a Seesaw for Schools account is slightly different than creating an account with regular free Seesaw!

Teachers will log in on a computer (not iPad) at app.seesaw.me, click their Profile Icon and click Create New Class. From there they can add students.


Step-by-step directions on how classroom teachers enter new students:


  1. Sign in to your Seesaw account on a computer at https://app.seesaw.me.
  2. Click on the Wrench icon in the top right corner
  3. Click on Manage Students
  4. Enter the Student ID (you may need to check PowerSchools or your school office for this)
  5. Follow the prompts to add the student to your class



It's also important to note that, with the free version, content can still be downloaded at the end of the school year (or whenever), but it will not automatically be available to next year's teacher.
