From the Principal:
Dear Families,
This is Clerical Appreciation Week and I want to begin with a HUGE shout out to our amazing office staff, Melissa Cadero and Kristina Roberts! These two ladies do so much to keep Midland moving forward. They assist families in registration, attendance, records, and communication, but they also do SO MUCH more! They assist our staff with information, technology, supplies, and everything that comes through the office. Additionally, they support Mr. Nunez and me in keeping our calendars straight, planning meetings, and correspondence. We ALL depend on Mrs. Cadero and Mrs. Roberts! Thank you, ladies, for your dedication to our students, families, and staff!
I am excited to celebrate our HOPE award winners this coming week AND I am equally excited to announce that we can now open our assemblies back for parents to come and celebrate with us! If your child is receiving an award this month, the assembly times are:
12:45-1:05 for Kindergarten, First and Second Grades
1:15-1:40 for Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades.
Several of you have asked about volunteering. While the governor's mandate still requires vaccination for volunteering, we are now able to offer exemptions to family members who would like to volunteer but are not vaccinated. If you would like to volunteer, please click on the form below this message for more information or call our office at 253-298-4500.
It's great to be a MUSTANG!

Organization
SEL Learning Standard 6C-- “I can identify positive practices that contribute to the maintenance of a healthy space.”
Most classroom have learned the brain science that says—if your brain in cluttered with thoughts and worries, this can lead to cluttered spaces. Also, when we try to live or work in cluttered spaces, our brains can struggle to focus, process, and stay calm. Each class had opportunities to organize one of their classroom spaces or hear a story about characters who organized their spaces. All of the excitement over organized spaces made my heart happy. 😊

Curriculum Information Sessions
Dear FPS K-4 Parents/Caregivers:
Franklin Pierce Schools is reviewing the 4th and 5th Grade Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) Curriculum.
Join us for one of two information sessions (1:30-2:30pm and 6-7pm on Thursday, 4/28) to learn more about Washington's new law, the FPS curriculum adoption process, and plans for implementation during the 22-23 school year.
Info sessions are optional for parents and community members who want to learn more about the proposed curriculum. Participants will be invited to provide feedback that will be considered as the updated proposed curriculum is presented to the school board for their consideration. A Spanish translator will be available. Please notify the district office to request a translator in a different language.
A recording of the presentation and feedback form will be made available following the info sessions.

PTA and Volunteers Wanted!
Our PTA has historically been an important part of our school community. Truthfully, with COVID and the movement of our previous PTA leadership, we have had a difficult time having an active PTA. I feel strongly that we are missing this important part of our community and it's time to build it up again! I would love your ideas of what you would like to see in a PTA. If you have ideas, please email them to me at pdawson@fpschools.org.
Have you been wanting to volunteer at Midland? It's been almost two years since we have been able to have parents in our building, but we are excited that we can now do so! Due to the ongoing pandemic, we do have some restrictions which are outlined on our website. Our classrooms could use tutors, we would love to have additional adults on our playground, and we could even bring back Friday snack sales during recess if we had adults who could help. Again, please email me and we will get you plugged in!
I'm looking forward to your partnership!
