Dear Parents & Friends of SFCS,

Happy Palm Sunday!

I hope everyone is having a happy and holy start to Holy Week! It is a short week for our students with an early dismissal on Wednesday at 11:30am. Easter Recess will begin then and we will welcome the students back on Monday, April 12th.

3rd Quarter Report Cards will be emailed home after school on Tuesday, March 30th.

Traditionally we celebrate Grandparents Day on Wednesday. With our current COVID-19 safety guidelines we will not be able to have the celebration as usual this year. Many of our students and classes have been working on activities in which they will share with their grandparents and/or grand friends to illustrate their gratitude for their support of Catholic school education.

There is a lot of good and important information included in this week's Howl. Don't forget to scroll down :)

Have a wonderful and blessed remainder to your Palm Sunday and beginning of Holy Week!

Sincerely in Christ,

Brian Pope

Principal

Prekindergarten

Check out all the great happenings below with Mrs. Burke's newsletter.

Kindergarten

This week Mrs. Gloven led in a study of Holy Thursday (because we won’t be here next Thursday). The kindergarten felt so special, as if they were part of the Last Supper with Jesus. It was a fantastic morning and the K students were so grateful to Mrs. Gloven for doing ALL of this for them!

1st Grade

The first graders are getting ready for Holy Week. We discussed Palm Sunday and the children made a cut out of Jesus riding on a donkey through Jerusalem. They used their Stations of the Cross booklets and said the Stations of the Cross.

3rd Grade

Mrs. Gloven also treated to her 3rd grade religion students to an interactive lesson of the Last Supper.

7th Grade Science

Dr. Douglas Scott, M.D. , an orthopedic surgeon spoke with seventh grade science students about the work that he does to help people. Dr. Scott did a great presentation about the structure and identification of bones, ligaments, and cartilage as well as the problems that plague them and the way that he fixes broken bones. Students got a good look into the education needed to become an orthopedic surgeon, the ways that different bone surgeries are done, and the types of instruments used by the surgeons. Students were confident in answering his questions and did a great job representing the St. Francis Catholic School student body.

7th Grade Social Studies

Our 7th grade students were treated to a presentation from Tom Kertesz, a native of Hungary and survivor of the Holocaust. Our 7th graders had some great questions and were thoroughly engaged with the presentation. Thank you to Mrs. Tiano and Mrs. Freisen for arranging this great opportunity for our 7th grade who is wrapping up their studies on WWII.

8th Grade Social Studies

How about some WWII Monopoly!!! These 8th graders created an excellent review game for their classmates in preparation for their test on WWII!

Below is a copy of all the Summer Camp Offerings at SFCS this Summer.

Clothing Drive

SFCS is teaming up with the Women of St. Francis in support of their Covenant Sewing Ministry to donate clothing to 3 orphanages in Venezuela. This is a great opportunity to empty those closets and support a very worthy cause. In May there will be a container in the lobby of the school to donate clothing items.

Great Job Middle School Students!

Middle schoolers made beautiful Spring posters for Bloom residents that were delivered Friday afternoon to each resident! It was a great Lenten activity of almsgiving.
