From School Administration
Mrs. Sonia Hurd, Assistant Principal, was selected as the recipient of Maryland's 2021 National Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year (NOAP). The award is presented annually as a collaborative effort between the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP).
The NOAP program promotes educational excellence for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade schooling and calls attention to the fundamental importance of the assistant principal in every school. It is through this award that MAESP and NAESP honors assistant principals who are doing a superb job in their positions and have brought about positive change in their respective schools.
As Principal of CCES, I am so proud of the work Mrs. Hurd does each day for our school.
She is a very hard-working school administrator who puts children first! Her strong knowledge of quality instruction coupled with her focus on strong relationships makes her a relevant and trusted leader. I am proud to have her by my side!
Mrs. Hurd was surprised on Thursday morning during a brief outdoor ceremony in front of the school building.
Mrs. Hurd was nominated and selected through a statewide search process conducted by MAESP. The criteria for the National Outstanding Assistant Principal Award are set by MAESP and NAESP. It requires that the honoree be an active assistant principal of a school where programs are designed to meet the academic and social needs of all students; demonstrates exceptional leadership in a particular school program; is respected by students, colleagues, parents, and the community at large; and sets high expectations for school staff and students.
Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Hurd!
Mr. Cosentino, Principal
NEW INFORMATION
National Student Art Competition
The White House Historical Association is hosting a National Student Art Competition to celebrate its 60th anniversary and the legacy of its founder, First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy, with the theme "The White House: An American Story."
WHHA seeks submissions from students across the country that depict and reflect the White House, its collection and its diverse history - that of presidents and first families, dedicated staff, and the American public.
The competition is open for submissions until May 7, 2021 and will have three grade-level categories: grades K through 3, grades 4 through 8, and grades 9 through 12. Winners in each category will be chosen via a panel of three judges and will be announced in July as part of the Association’s annual celebration of Mrs. Kennedy's birthday.
