The Bare Necessities
November 4, 2019
Dear Colleagues,
As we digest the tragic news about the Wheeler family, I am struck by how critical it is that we lean on each other to get through these challenging times. The district has scheduled a roving sub for us today. If you need to take some time out of your class to process this loss, please don't hesitate to let me know and I will send the substitute to cover your class for a period of time.
I set up a basket to collect messages of support in the staff room under the white board. I will leave this out for the week, and then see that all of the notes get to the family.
As we enter this season of gratitude, I hugged my loved ones a little closer this weekend. I also looked back on some magic happening at Griffin Creek over the past week (see pictures below). So grateful to serve along such fine educators.
Take good care,
Erika

Safety Commnittee
We are grateful that Cheryl Markiewicz has agreed to take over as the Safety Committee Chair. If you have any safety concerns that you notice around campus, please send them to her and c.c. Linda. They will ensure it makes it onto the next meeting agenda. Below is a link to the notes from our October meeting.
Reminders
- We are having an abbreviated staff meeting from 2:45-3:15 today to learn about the lodge, and get our Bingo game pieces!
- Let me know who is attending the Math training A.S.A.P. (thank you Kindergarten for letting me know by the deadline). I included the information about the trainings again below.
- As you plan grade level events (field trips, guest speakers, parties and so on) please include the appropriate MAPs teacher from the beginning. Both Press and Teresa would be happy to join a planning meeting or grade level P.L.C. We agreed that inclusion is a Griffin Creek value, and true inclusion takes effort. Thanks for being vigilant to include all of our kids!
Action Item: Important PD Opportunity!
The concern regarding lack of training in our math curriculum was heard! In our S.I.P. day in October, both groups examining the math data indicated that lack of training and familiarity with the math curriculum have made it difficult to reach our goals in math. The district is taking action, and training has been arranged.
There are grade level specific training being provided on the following dates listed below. We can send up to two people per grade level. If you are a new teacher (last two years) or new to your grade level, I strongly encourage you to attend. Please let me know who on each team plans to attend by Thursday. You could also include this information in your P.L.C. notes this week.
· Grade 3 – 11/12/19
· Grades 4 & 5 – 11/18/19
· Grade 6 - 11/19/19
