## Blueprint!!!!

A picture of my blueprint and a short explanation for on the picture. My kite is a delta kite. These kites are usually take on a triangular shape.

## How to make a Kite

Step one: Choose the correct material. this material should not be heavy weight material because if it is, it is going to cause your kite to weigh down and will not be able to soar in the wind.
Step two: Take the material that you were planning to you were planning to use the foundation as. Take the material and lay it out. Draw the shape on the material as big as you desire and cut it out.
Step three: Build the supporter by connecting two sticks together (as in the diagram or as making a addition sign) and placing it in the center of the kite. Using tape or string to secure it on the kite.
Step four: Add the tail at the bottom of the kite using a light weight material.
Step five: DECORATE!!!!!
Step six: Fly!!!!

## Questions:

PROBLEM ONE: In 1820, George Pocock connected several large kites to a carriage and pulled it from Southampton to London. Since road taxes were based on the number of horses used to pull a carriage, he was able to avoid any taxes! The 60 mile trip took two hours. Modern kite buggies now go twice as fast but seldom go as far. How fast was the carriage moving? 30 miles. PROBLEM TWO: In the year 169 BC, the Chinese General Han Hsin used a kite to measure the distance between his camp and the wall of an enemy city. His soldiers then dug a tunnel the same distance in order to crawl under the wall and attack from inside. The city was conquered by a kite! How can you measure a minimum distance with a kite? By knowing the measurment of how far the kite went into the air. By knowing the measurment of the string that went into the air and the measurment of the kite itself.

## How did making a model kite help you make one in science?

Making the model kite helped me because I have never made a kite before. So by making these models kites helped me get a feel of how to make the one in science. Along with if you make any mistakes on the model, it allows you to be able to correct the mistakes before making them on the actual thing.

## The history of fly a kite day

National Fly a Kite Day is held every year on June 15th. On this day, many people all around the United States hoist their kites up into the air. Despite this, many people do not realize the historical significance that this date commemorates.On June 15th, 1752, Benjamin Franklin also decided to fly a kite. During this time period, Franklin was conducting a lot of experiments with electricity. As he described in his autobiography, Franklin would often demonstrate static electricity to astonished audience members by building up a static charge in a jar, and then transferring it to another jar.In 1752, a few people thought that perhaps lightning and static electricity were essentially the same phenomenon. However, no one had definitively proved this to be the case. Franklin decided to find out.Here's how he did it:Franklin attached one end of a silk string to a kite and the other end passed through a key and into a jar which was capable of storing an electric charge. He then attached a dry silk ribbon to the key and stayed inside a barn so that he wouldn't get wet. Since he was holding onto the dry ribbon, Franklin was able to prevent himself from getting electrocuted.After a while, a thunderstorm cloud passed overhead, and the negative electricity traveled down the silk string, through the key, and into the jar. Franklin was able to confirm that electricity had been transferred from the storm cloud and into the key because when he touched it he received a shock! This confirmed to him that static electricity and lightning are indeed one and the same.Franklin used this newly discovered knowledge to invent the lightning rod. A major problem throughout history has been tall buildings getting struck by lightning and burning down. By installing a lightning rod, the lightning can be channeled safely into the earth. Late in his life, Franklin's own house was struck by lightning, but he had a lightning rod installed, so his own invention saved his house!National Fly a Kite Day is a great time to celebrate and learn about Franklin's tremendous achievement. However, it is not recommended that you fly a kite in a thunderstorm with a key attached. In fact, Franklin was either very lucky or very careful to have survived at all. Many amateur admirers of Franklin who have attempted to replicate his experiment have been badly electrocuted or killed.So on June 15th, head over to the park.
