Important K-2 Dismissal Reminders
A few dismissal reminders for K-2 students (and siblings):
- If your child has a change in transportation, you must notify the office of the change of plans or he/she will be sent home his/her usual way.
- Please make sure you have a sign indicating the last names/grade levels of all children riding in your vehicle.
- Please stay in your vehicles at all times.
- Students who are meeting parents at the Solon sign should be true walkers. This means you are walking from Solon to your house. If you are arriving to school or the neighborhood around school in a car, you must enter the car line. Adults should not park on Wells Street or Pettibone Street to walk up to get K-2 students. If you need to make a change to your child's dismissal routine because of this, please contact his/her teacher to indicate you will be using the car rider line moving forward.
Thank you for helping us make dismissal safe and efficient each day.
Semester Grades
Last year, our elementary schools joined our middle and high schools in reporting grades at the end of each semester. Previously, elementary report cards were finalized each nine weeks. We have shifted to reporting at the end of each semester so that students have a longer time to demonstrate what they know and can do. Our focus is on mastery learning and supporting a growth mindset in our learners.
The end of the first 9 weeks is Friday, October 13, 2023. While parents are always able to view students’ progress in our Buzz Learning Management System, this checkpoint at the end of the 9 weeks is a great time to check in on how your child is doing. There will still be plenty of time to ask for help if needed, complete work, and bring grades up before the end of the semester when grades are finalized. If you have not yet verified your email address in Buzz, this is an important step to ensure that you are receiving all relevant alerts and information about your child’s progress. Instructions for accessing Buzz are linked here.
Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher should you have any questions about their progress or to learn more about how you can partner with us to support your child’s academic development.
We look forward to welcoming you to Parent Teacher Conferences in late October. During Parent Teacher Conferences, we encourage a collaborative dialogue that highlights how your student is transitioning throughout the first semester. We look forward to addressing questions parents/caregivers have, sharing relevant information (engagement, strengths, NWEA, classwork, socialization, areas for growth), and establishing on-going means for communication.
