A Message from Marcie

Hello, South Park!

We transitioned to indoor lunch just in the nick of time. Fall weather has arrived, and the temperatures are dropping. Each year, we are asked what our practice is regarding letting students play outside or bringing them in when the weather is bad. We hope the weather cooperates and we can keep the students outside for recess every day (but we live in Chicago!).

Our practice is to let kids go outside if the temperature/wind chill is 10 degrees or warmer and it is not raining or snowing too hard.

In the last few weeks, students have been coming to school without warm coats, hats, and gloves. Please send your children to school with appropriate clothing for outdoor play. If they want to play in the snow, they are required to wear boots and snow pants. We also recommend that you send an extra set of dry clothes to keep in school.

A few other reminders:

  • Don't forget to change your clocks this weekend. We fall back one hour on Saturday night.
  • We will not have school on Thursday, November 11, in observance of Veteran's Day.
  • Next Friday will be a South Park Spirit Day. Students are invited to wear their SP spirit wear.

Have a wonderful weekend!

-Marcie

Nuts at Lunch

Please remember that nuts are only permitted at lunch in the multipurpose room. If your child was assigned to the classroom for lunch, they should NOT bring any peanuts or tree nuts in their lunch. This includes leftover Halloween candy!

Rather than turning our entire school into a nut-free building, we opted to allow nuts in our multipurpose room which is a controlled environment with frequent disinfecting and protocol to keep our students with allergies safe. To prevent our students from leaving any nut residue on desks and tables in the classroom, we must keep nuts out of our classrooms. Thank you for your cooperation!

Lunch concerns specific to your child should be shared with the classroom teacher.

Conference Sign-Ups

Parent-teacher conferences will be held via Zoom on Monday, November 22 and Tuesday, November 23.

Conference sign-ups were sent out in a standalone email this past Monday. It is not too late to sign up! Please CLICK HERE to sign up for a conference.

We hope that families who choose to travel during the week of Thanksgiving will take advantage of the virtual conference structure and sign up for a time slot during our teachers' designated conference times.

Yearbook Cover Contest

We are excited about our 2nd annual Yearbook Cover Contest!

The theme for this year’s yearbook cover is Hope/Resilience/Sticking with It. Each design should reflect the theme. Students should create their designs on 8.5x11 paper and turn them into their classroom teacher by November 16th.

All students will get a chance to vote for their favorite cover at the end of November. The winner will be announced during morning announcements. The winning submission will be featured on the cover of the yearbook.
