PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Congratulations to Lopez Debate as they close out another year as the #1 team in the district. In Saturday’s Congress tournament, Lopez had 3 TIMES as many top speaker awards as the 2nd place school. Lopez won 1st place and 2nd place speakers in 3 of the 4 houses they competed in and two 3rd places. Special congrats to Kathy He, Mitch Lurtz, and Jacob Alemeshet for their 1st place wins!
This past week, Lopez was awarded the Lonestar Middle School Cup. This is a huge accomplishment because it entails all the work our kids do in extra-curricular activities, from sport to fine arts to academic competitions. We really strive to develop the 360 degree kid and this is a nice reminder that those efforts paid off.
Our 8th grade party was a huge success. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers, especially the cooks in the picture below (Joel Johnson, Rudy Solis, me, Clark Boudreaux, George Chebib and David Riojas.) I might have flipped around three burgers, but they worked their tails off on the rest. We had a fun time too.
I also had a proud moment for myself as a father. I spend my days making sure kids get a great education and now I got to see my own son finish his education as a university grad. And to top it off he landed a job the day before. I often do not get to see the end product of my students, but this was a great reminder of the importance of our work here. (Pictured below)
Thank you,
Eric Wernli

LOPEZ PANTHERS LEAD, SERVE AND INSPIRE
Lopez families. If your child did not complete or do the student survey for lead during their flex class period please have them take the survey at home. This is approximately 20 min. (no identifying information will be requested or collected) that will be confidentially administered by your child. Students will privately answer questions about their attitudes and behaviors on their phones or device provided for them. They will be able to skip questions and stop at any time they choose. Ask the students to please answer the questions honestly as the information collected will be used to implement Leadership on our campus.

Parents/Guardians
Celebration! Lopez MS is the 1st Leader in Me Lighthouse Middle School in Texas! Leader in Me teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. During the months of April/May our school will be conducting surveys to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. The data from these surveys will also help us track the impacts of The Leader in Me process and implement key practices more fully. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school we are asking all full-time staff members, parents/guardians, and students to participate.
If you decide participate, you will be asked to complete a survey (without sharing your name or other identifying information) that will be available through a web link . The survey is completely voluntary, but we do hope to get feedback from one member of every household. The parent/guardian survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your child and about his/her experience in our school. If you have more than one child attending the school, you will be asked to think about the oldest child’s experiences as you answer questions related to their growth.
