Remote Learning
Thank you to all of our teachers, students, and parents who have been cooperatively participating in our Remote Learning process.
Please be reminded that you can access information regarding our Remote Learning at AOHS Remote Learning 20-21
It is important to note that the biggest difference between this past spring and this fall is that student grades are issued based on the work that is completed and turned in by students. In the spring, due to the abrupt circumstances that we were forced to move to remote learning, student grades were to be considered in a "due no harm" situation. This meant that students knew their final grade would be no worse than their grade when we moved to remote learning. While some students continued to diligently work and actively participate in the learning process, others chose to do the opposite.
Please continue to check in students for attendance at the Teacherease website.
At this time, AOCUSD #1 will continue on our Remote Learning Plan through the 1st quarter (10/16/20). We are currently discussing and considering options for the 2nd quarter and remainder of the 20-21 school year.
Please consider reviewing recommendations for students on remote learning at the link below.
Illinois High School Association
Extra-curricular activities are an important part of our students experience. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has caused a significant disruption to these activities for many of our students. We work with and follow the guidelines of the Illinois High School Association. At the end of July, the IHSA released an announcement for a modified schedule for the 20-21 school year for activities.
This schedule is dependent upon allowable activities based on guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and local Health Departments. As additional announcements are made, we will share them with you.

SAT for Seniors / PSAT-NMSQT for Juniors
This past spring, state assessments (standardized tests) were waived as a requirement by the US Department of Education due to COVID-19. Illinois requires graduates to take the SAT as a graduation requirement. In an effort to help seniors who did not get the opportunity to take the SAT this past spring, College Board has provided schools the opportunity administer the SAT this month. Due to our students being on full remote learning, we are offering this opportunity as an option to fulfill the graduation requirement. Seniors who do no take the SAT this month will be required to take it in the spring of this school year. The Illinois State Board of Education has been informed by the US Department of Education that we should not expect waivers to be made available like they were this past spring.
Our AOHS juniors typically take the PSAT-NMSQT in October as a practice opportunity for the April state required SAT assessment. We will be offering this opportunity to our juniors on October 14, 2020. Understanding that we are on full remote learning, we are offering this opportunity as an option to our juniors.
Additional information will be sent our regarding both of these opportunities in the next week.
College Board (SAT) has coordinated with Khan Academy to offer free practice for the PSAT and the SAT. Please see the links below and encourage our students to take advantage of this opportunity.
