BSE Families,

The NWEA testing window closed across the district on Friday. Later this week, families will receive a message from the district with scores. Teachers will use this data to guide their instruction as a whole class and in small groups.

As each week begins, the instruction deepens and students are more engaged in their learning. As we move in and out of rooms daily, we witness students taking ownership of their knowledge, learning, and behavior. Each day engage your child in conversation about their day. Ask questions such as these:

• How were you a leader today?
• What was something that stretched your thinking?
• What was something new you tried today?
• What made you think differently today?
• How did you show kindness to a classmate or to an adult?
• What was challenging today?
• What are you most proud of today?

Please continue to have your child read each night. Take turns reading and even read to your child. Reading habits begin at a young age. It is not too late to build strong reading habits. Set a routine time each day whether it be after dinner, before dinner, before bed, or after school with a snack. Reading is the basis for all learning. Students are checking out books weekly from the BSE library. Ask them what they have checked out to read and share it with you.

We are quickly approaching the September 1st deadline for updating immunizations. All students need to be fully vaccinated by September 1st or have an updated Relegious Exemption on file. If your student still needs immunizations to be compliant by the September 1 deadline, please contact the Fishers Health Department. FHD has appointments available now, so please schedule as soon as possible. Register using the link or QR code on the attached flyer.

All students must have a Health Card (located in the Back to School Forms on Skyward) filled out in order to be treated in the clinic, unless it is an emergency. Please log in to your Skyward account to fill out this form.

Try This at Home:

Share with your child important information or instructions, let your child know that you really need his or her focused attention. Ask your child to show you how an attent-o-scope helps them focus.

Ask your child to share with you about when a good time would be to practice listening with attention and how they use their listening skills each day.

From time to time, a case of head lice is reported to the school throughout the year. Should a case of head lice be brought to the school’s attention, the school nurse will maintain confidentiality of the student’s identity and assist the staff and parents with educational material. While the odds of your son or daughter developing a case of head lice are relatively small, the following includes useful information on head lice and the signs and symptoms.

Head Lice Information

• Head Lice are small parasitic insects that can be found on the heads of people.

• Head lice feed on human blood several times a day and live close to the human scalp.

• Head lice and head lice nits are found on the scalp, around and behind the ears and near

the neckline at the back of the head.

• Head lice cannot fly or jump; they can only crawl

• Head lice are spread by direct head‐to‐head contact

• Head lice are rarely spread by contact with clothing or personal items (such as combs,

brushes, hats or coats)

• Head lice are not a sign of uncleanliness

• Head lice are not known to spread disease.

Signs and symptoms of head lice infestation

• Tickling feeling of something moving in the hair

• Itching, caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the head louse

• Irritability and difficulty sleeping; head lice are most active in the dark

• Sores on the head caused by scratching

If your child exhibits signs and symptoms of head lice infestation, you should examine your

child’s head (especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck) for crawling lice and nits. If

crawling lice and/or nits have been found, all household members should be examined for head

lice and/or nits every 3‐4 days. Persons with live (crawling) lice or nits within ¼ inch or less of

the scalp should be treated.

Please be aware that we staff members do not disclose the name of the student, name of the teacher nor grade level to other families in order to provide student/family confidentiality. We do ask that if your child does have lice, please notify the school and those individuals/families that your child has been in close contact with.

You can also send money with your student. Please place it in an envelope marked with your studen'ts name, ID number, teacher's name, and the amount paid.

Hamilton Southeastern Schools has launced ParentSquare for school communications for the 2022-2023 school year. ParentSquare allows us to communicate with students, staff, and families via email, text, and app notifications.

At this time ParentSquare does not have the ability for you to message a teacher directly. If you need to reach out to your student's teacher we encourage you to do that via their email address.

We have two dates set for picture day! Be on the lookout for emails from BSE and Lifetouch.

Your child will participate based on the dates below.

• Kindergarten - 4th Grade: Tuesday, September 27th
• Preschool: Wednesday, September 28th

We already have items in our lost and found with no names on them. Please label all water bottles, lunch boxes, jackets, etc. with student's first and last names so that we can return lost items to students. If your student is missing an item please have them check the lost and found table.

Winter Basketball Registration is Open!

HSE Report It! is a school safety mobile reporting app that allows students, staff, and community members to provide anonymous information about concerns for their own safety or the safety of others. HSE Report it!, can be downloaded via Google Play or the Apple App Store. It’s anonymous and reports are made exclusively through the mobile app. HSE Report it! has no length limitations or the need to remember a short code. Reporters can attach photos, screenshots, videos, documents and/or audio recordings to their concerns and they can engage in a two-way dialogue with a real person.
