COVID Protocols in RCSD Schools
December 9 Community Update
COVID Testing Kits Available as District Prepares for Winter Break Return
Redwood City School District (RCSD) will make COVID test kits available to all students and staff as the District prepares for a safe winter break return. RCSD will follow a very similar process to what it has practiced this school year when returning from a holiday--tests are distributed, students and staff are asked to administer the test at home one day prior to the return, and individuals who test positive are asked to stay home.
All 12 RCSD schools will be sending test kits home with students. Individuals may also choose to use their own at-home testing kits, visit their primary medical provider, or any community organization for testing.
The testing kits will be available as follows:
All students will receive COVID test kits either on Thursday, December 15 or Friday, December 16 from their school sites.
Each school-based employee will also receive a box containing two COVID test kits. The COVID tests will be placed either in the employee’s mailbox or they can pick it up from the school’s main office.
All District Office staff can pick up a COVID test kit from the District’s reception desk.
Everyone is asked to administer the test at home one day prior to their scheduled return to school/work. Individuals who test positive are asked to follow this process:
Families: Reporting of a positive case
Do not come to school.
Parents should complete the District’s self-reporting form when reporting a student positive case. This form is available on the “Quicklinks” section of the RCSD website as well as all 12 school websites.
The Department of Student Services will contact parents to review the case and answer any return to school questions via StudentCOVIDResponse@rcsdk8.net
In addition to reporting the positive case, families should report their child’s absence to the school office.
Employees: Reporting of a positive case
Do not come to work.
Employees reporting a positive COVID case will email EmployeeCOVIDResponse@rcsdk8.net. A response with guidelines and next steps will be sent to the employee.
Employees should report their absences through Frontline, the district’s absence management system. Absences can be entered prior to 7:00 am. If the absence is reported after 7:00 am, human resources staff will assist employees.
Positive cases will stay home and isolate for 5 days (day of the test is day 0). The district or school site will then follow-up with individuals who test positive to review requirements for their return date.
If the test results are negative, the individual may return to school/work following winter break as scheduled.
The 2022-23 COVID Protocols in RCSD Schools updates is a service of the RCSD Department of Communications in collaboration with district administrators leading COVID response to keep the RCSD community informed in 2022-23. The RCSD community is encouraged to visit the school district’s website as new guidance provided to RCSD will be uploaded as soon as it becomes available.
