SAFETY DRILLS
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, faculty, and staff, I am writing to inform you about the "Lockdown" school safety drill that was conducted at VHS on Friday 2/15 at 10:00am. Safety drills are an essential aspect of our emergency preparedness efforts, designed to familiarize students and staff with procedures to follow in the event of various emergencies. These drills are conducted regularly throughout the school year to ensure that everyone is adequately prepared to respond calmly and effectively in case of an emergency situation. During the drills, students and staff will practice procedures such as evacuation, sheltering, and lockdown, depending on the specific scenario being simulated. Our goal is to ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities and knows how to respond quickly and safely in any emergency situation. Please rest assured that these drills are carefully planned and supervised to minimize disruption to the learning environment while providing valuable training for everyone involved. Additionally, appropriate support and accommodations will be provided for students with special needs to ensure their safety and inclusion during the drills. If you would like future drill dates, please reach out to pchamberlain@aadusd.k.12.ca.us.
Attendance Counts
PARENTS....We really need your help!! As we move through the academic year, I wanted to emphasize the critical importance of attendance and punctuality for our students' success. It has come to our attention that we are experiencing a high number of tardies during the first period and throughout the day each day (today we had about 100 students with multiple tardies). While we understand that circumstances may arise, consistent attendance and timeliness ensure that students fully benefit from classroom instruction and engagement. To reinforce the significance of punctuality, we are implementing a policy stating that any student with three tardies will be required to serve lunch detention.
We believe this will help instill valuable habits that contribute to academic success and future endeavors. Your partnership in reinforcing the importance of attendance and punctuality is greatly appreciated. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Together, we can support our students in their educational journey.
Antelope Valley Youth@Work Expo
You are invited to be a part of the Antelope Valley Youth@Work Expo that will take place on February 16, 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm. The event will target current and future Youth@Work participants, with a targeted emphasis to reach the region’s transitional-aged youth (TAY) and Opportunity Youth, ages 16-24. The event will provide the attending youth with a comprehensive introduction to the workforce services offered through the America’s Job Centers of California and Youth@Work, as well as the full spectrum of services available in the region through its partners and employers offering onsite interviews and matching. Additionally, the Antelope Valley Youth@Work Expo will provide the County departments an opportunity to engage directly with Youth@Work participants to recruit for Countywide Youth Bridges Program.

Parent Ambassador Leaders (PALs) Program Application and Toolkit
As a district we are looking for ways to engage our families and our community more.
The Parent Ambassador Program is a great way for us to begin. Please check this out and let me know if you know of any of our parents who might be interested.
Parent Ambassador Leaders (PALs) Program Application and Toolkit The Parent Ambassador Leaders (PALs) program is currently accepting applications for the spring semester! PALs is designed to help parents learn, share, and get paid-$550! Learn: PALs help parents/guardians (parents) learn about four topics connected to student health and school success via online trainings. Share: Parents share what they have learned with people in their child’s school community and can connect others with resources and partners in the community. Interested parents need the support of a school administrator because outreach activities take place at elementary, middle, or high school campuses. Parents can work with administration to determine what type of outreach would be most beneficial to their specific school site. Paid: Parents are paid $550 when they finish approximately 6 hours of training and 14 hours of outreach activities (approximately 20 hours total). Parents receive a gift card at the end of the semester (Spring 2024). Because outreach activities occur at elementary, middle, or high school campuses, interested parents will need the support of a school administrator. Spread the word! Are there parents at your school that are already involved and invested? Share the attached flyer with your various parent groups and encourage parents to apply. Visit the Ambassador home page to find out more about the program. For additional assistance regarding the PALs program, please contact TK12Ambassador@ph.lacounty.gov

PBIS Rewards Family App Access
Our School is using PBIS Rewards to help us with our PBIS program! PBIS Rewards is a technology-based PBIS Management System that helps us with our behavior incentive program. You can learn about PBIS Rewards at their website (www.pbisrewards.com).
Our students can earn rewards throughout the day by meeting our behavior expectations. These rewards are in the form of electronic points. They can redeem these points for privileges, tangible items, access to events, and other similar things. Our expectation is that we will see overall behavior improve throughout the school and that the number of referrals we have will decrease.
PBIS Rewards has a Family App that will give you some insight into how your child is doing with respect to our PBIS program. The Family App will run on most smart devices, including smartphones and tablets. You can find it in the iPhone/iPad App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store. Just search for "PBIS Rewards Family."
An email has been sent to families to get you set up on the PBIS Rewards Family App. Please access this email from PBIS Rewards if you wish to access your child's progress. If you did not receive an email, please contact Mrs. Lepp so she can help get you set up.
