Affidavits Due December 18th

The Coweta County School System is requiring 2015-16 Affidavits of Residence from the parents or guardians of all children enrolled in Coweta County Schools. The affidavits must be completed and filed with schools by Friday, December 18, 2015. Affidavits are printed on pink paper and were sent home earlier. An online, printable copy of the 2015-16 affidavit can also be found at the school system’s website (www.cowetaschools.net) or can be picked up at any Coweta school. The completed forms must be notarized, and all schools employ Notaries Public for parent’s convenience. If you have any questions, please call us and our office staff will be happy to assist you.

Severe Weather Procedures

As winter approaches, the Coweta County School System wants to remind parents and the community of the procedures that schools and the school system follow in the event of severe weather.

During severe weather watches or warnings, the district works with local authorities to monitor developing conditions and proceeds with arrival and dismissal based upon known conditions. Adjustments are made as needed.

In the event that schools are delayed, closed or released early, there are a variety of ways the school system notifies parents, including:

Parents are urged to make sure that their child’s school has their latest contact information, including new phone numbers, so that they can be contacted during such events.

In the event of severe weather, a determination will be made each day on whether to close or delay school, or continue school closure, based on anticipated travel conditions and other factors. Once a determination is made, the school system will notify parents and the community about the next day’s status.

The school system tries to make such determinations in as timely a manner as possible. But storm severity, weather arrival and anticipated travel conditions constantly change and can be difficult to assess. If the school system cannot make a final determination on the evening before a school day, a final determination early the following morning is necessary.

Notices are typically placed on the system’s website (cowetaschools.net) if the school system is continuing to evaluate conditions, or if normal school operations are anticipated. The school system will notify parents immediately by phone call, text or email, media notice and other means if a determination to close or delay school is made.

In the event of a school delay, the system will notify parents of the length of the delay. For a delay of two hours, for example, parents and students should assume that all normal school procedures are delayed two hours – bus pick-up is two hours from usual times (at 9:00 or 9:30 a.m., for example), and classes will start two hours later (at 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 a.m.). In such cases, however, school dismissal times would remain the same (2:30 and 3:30 p.m.).

Other weather-related contingencies or tips include:

  • Parents of bus riders should also be aware that extremely cold morning temperatures can cause delays on morning routes. A severe storm watch may also cause delays. Our transportation department works to pick up students as quickly as possible during these conditions.

  • In the case of tornado warnings, we re-route buses to the nearest school sites and shelter in place. We also utilize fire stations, if needed. Once a tornado warning has been lifted, and conditions are safe, we will resume bus service.

  • Steps you can take include ensuring your children are dressed as warmly as possible during the winter months and remaining with your children until they are picked up when extreme weather conditions exist.

  • In the event of school closure, schools often employ a number of resources through which parents or students can stay abreast of school work and assignments, including Remind texts from teachers, Edmodo, Google Classroom, class websites, or online quizzes assigned by teachers.

  • It is important that your child’s school has your current emergency contact information, including home and work phone numbers for our calling system. Please take the time to update that information with your child’s school if needed.

Office Reminders

Lost and Found: All lost valuables (electronics, money, jewelry, keys) are locked in the front office vault. All other lost and found items are kept on a shelf in the lost and found room inside the computer lab across from the cafeteria. Students may check the lost and found areas during homeroom or with a pass from their teacher.

Transportation Notes: If a student needs to ride a bus other than the assigned bus, the student must bring a note from the parent/guardian with a telephone number for verification. Transportation notes will be accepted in the form of a written letter, an e-mail, or by fax and must be received prior to 3:00 p.m.

Arrival and Dismissal: No student should arrive on campus before 7:30 a.m. Students arriving before 8:00 a.m. will report to the cafeteria or gym until they are told to report to homeroom at 8:00 a.m. Students who are not bus riders are encouraged to report to school after 8:00 a.m. and report directly to their homerooms. Students may not remain at school after scheduled dismissal time unless they have prior approval from a staff member who will supervise them or they are a member of a club, athletic team, etc. sponsored by the school. Supervision will only be provided from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

Dropping off Lunches or Medication: If a student forgets a lunch at home, parents may drop it off at the front office, and students will be called to pick up their lunch at the beginning of their scheduled lunch time. If a student needs medication, it can be dropped off at any time for the school nurse.

Dropping off Other Items:

Any other item dropped off for students during the school day may be picked up after school. Instruction will not be interrupted for students to pick up items during class. This includes forgotten homework, shoes for PE, projects, etc. Students are responsible for bringing needed materials to class daily. If these items are brought to school during the day, we are happy to make an announcement at the end of the day for your child to pick them up in the front office.

Phone Use: Students are permitted to use a phone in the front office during school hours for emergencies or for illness. Calling home for homework, a school project, or to make arrangements to attend an after school event that wasn't previously arranged ties up phone lines and is not permitted. Students may call home if:

  1. There is a transportation issue,
  2. Lunch or lunch money is needed,
  3. Equipment is needed for after school athletics or activity.
  4. There is a dress code issue.
  5. The student is sick (must call from the clinic under the nurse's supervision).

We appreciate your help in keeping interruptions to a minimum.
