-Must be 30 years old
-Must be a citizen of the U.S. for at least 9 years
-Serve a 6 year term
-Set their own salaries
-Free from arrest when attending congress
-Can't be sued for anything they say on House floor
Positions
-Most important officers in the Senate are majority and minority leaders
-Majority leader's main job is to steer the party's bills through the Senate
-Minority leader develops criticisms of the majority party's bills and tries to keep senators in the minority party working together
-Whips assist the majority and minority leaders of the Senate by making sure the legislators are present for key votes
